SOPHIA HARMON has always felt like an outcast, ever since she was little she felt like she was the odd one out - her blonde hair contrasting with that of her sister's and mother's. When she and Beth lost their mother, the girls only had each other. Now orphans, Sophia and Beth learn about the game of chess, which instantly intrigues both girls. Just as Beth see's the game in her head, Sophia envisions a different world - one of kings and queens, protected by the warriors and kept safe by the towers surrounding them.
When she reaches High School, the girl starts a love for journalism, which is further carried along when her sister starts participating in tournaments. Sophia keeps her stories to herself, which she writes narrating the chess games in a different view, one that she believes will bring in more people.
As time goes on, the girls are further thrown into the fascinating world of chess. That's when Sophia meets the intriguing Benny Watts, a man who constantly makes her wonder what she got herself into.
BENNY WATTS' world is constantly changing as he heads to different places in his chess tournaments. The one thing that has always been normal to him has been chess; it brings him peace and makes him feel at home.
When he meets the Harmon sisters, he is certainly intrigued by them and their ways. One in particular captures his eye - a girl with blond hair and warm eyes. The first day they met, she was wearing a neat, white dress. The only thing that came to Benny's mind in that moment was her uncanny similarity to the white queen that he always stared at during his games - something about her was unique.
