Ivy Novak didn't particularly
like being a demigod.

It's not like there was really anything wrong with it, well, other than monsters constantly chasing you and the fact you may not make it past the age of sixteen because of that. But for her it was the pressure of being one. The pressure of being good enough to feel like you deserve it.

And Ivy knows she's not perfect, but she tries her hardest to be. To feel like she can be accepted, and even worthy of the title. Camp Half-Blood (a year round camp for demigods) takes in all demigods and see's them as worthy, but it's different with the kids. Some don't care about it, and don't focus on the title given by their godly parent. But other's take it like the peoplein the White House take their roles. And they see some kids as not being worthy, or being a pathetic excuse for one.

So when Ivy is chosen to go on a quest with a newcomer to find Zeus's master lightning bolt, she finally sees an opportunity to prove her worth to others, her mother, and even to herself.
