I sat down to a chair next to him. He sat there while looking down to his phone.

"Hey.", I said.

He looked up and paused for a second.

"Hey.", he said in a deep voice, looking down at his phone again.

Then it was quiet. Too quiet.

"Why did you help me?", I asked curious.

"What are you talking about?", he asked while looking up again. This time he closed his phone, giving me all his attention.

"The reason you're here? The bitch thing?", I questioned.

"I didn't help you.", he scoffed.

"If you didn't help me, what are you doing here Nate?"

"I just wanted to have fun. You know? You don't always get to say stuff like that to a teacher and because you already messed up, I didn't want to miss the opportunity.", he tried to explain.

"Yeah, sure.", I said sarcastically.

"Honestly, you're right Alaska. I only did that for you. You know... I've liked you for a while now.", he admitted.

Wait, is this really happening?

"Really?", I asked in shook.

"Yes Laska, I'm crazy about you.", he said while grabbing my hand.

I just stared at him while he slowly leaned in.
I thought he was about to kiss me, when he suddenly whispered into my ear:

"God Alaska. You are so naive.", he chuckled.

I looked at him in disbelief. Did I really fall for one of Nates tricks?

"You are such an asshole .", I slightly yelled.

"Oh come on, I know you like me.", he said smirking.

"Not even in your dreams. You just admitted to like me. You said you were crazy about me.", this time I was the one who smirked.

"You know I was joking around and now you're embarrassed."

"Were you?", I asked.

"Alaska enough! Shut up!", he yelled.

"You're not telling me when to shut up!", I yelled back.

"Guess what! I just did."

"You're acting like a child!", I told him.

"Oh now it's me who acts like a child? Weren't you the one who grinned at me like a child? Did you really think anyone could like you?", he laughed humorless.

Ouch

I didn't know what to say this time.

He had a worried expression on his face, but then it disappeared.

"Look, I'm leaving.", he said while standing up.

"You can't just leave, Nate!"

"You're not telling me when to leave!", he mimicked me.

"Guess what? I just did!", I mimicked him.

And then he disappeared.

What did just happen?

Before I could think about it more, the teacher entered the room.

"Alaska.", he greeted me.

"Mr. Melville.", I greeted him back.

"So, I heard what you did.", he told me.

"I'm really sorry. This won't happen again.", I promised.

"I can't blame you. I don't really like her either, but you didn't hear that from me.", he smiled.

I smiled back.

"So where's that other boy? Nate?", he asked.

"Uhm he... he didn't... he didn't feel good. So he left to get some rest.", I lied.

I know it's bad to lie, but he stood up for me too earlier, even if he won't admit it.

"Ok, I guess.", he answered like he wouldn't care.

After I had to suffer in that classroom, I was finally home. Laying in my bed, thinking about today. About Nate. About what he said.

Did you really think anyone could like you?

Is that what people think of me?

An unlikeable person?

An annoying girl who can't just shut up when a teacher says something?

A dramatic person who gets hurt by literally everything?
