THE ATMOSPHERE OF SALTBURN WAS ESPECIALLY JOVIAL THIS AFTERNOON.

It seemed everyone was excited for the latest visitor to arrive. The entire Catton clan was waiting in the main hall—something, Oliver notes, they did not do for his arrival—and as Duncan led the young woman through the doorway, each family member made a quick grab for her. In the commotion of it all, Oliver finds himself left behind with the footmen as the family forms a circle around their new guest.

Cousin Winnie must be something special to garner such a warm reception, but he should have expected no less from Saint-Winifred.

A small smirk forms on Oliver's face as he is reminded of the inside joke Felix brought him in on. Saint-Winifred was the pejorative nickname that Felix taunted his cousin with behind her back.

In truth, the entire family had a real gift for effectively reducing a person to some silly little pet name. Harmless enough and yet still cutting.

Saint Winifred.

Poor Dear Pamela.

At the sudden reminder of Pamela, Oliver can feel his posture becoming rigid. She was the original guest here at Saltburn, and she had been cast aside rather unceremoniously once he had arrived.

But that's because she overstayed her welcome.

This wasn't the case for him. Felix had just mentioned how much he was enjoying having him around this summer.

Felix.

Oliver now hones in on the Catton boy, silently studying his reactions to all things Winnie. It appeared that she had said something rather funny because Felix was now throwing his head back in genuine laughter. Had he ever made him laugh like that? Had he ever even seen him laugh in that way? He almost resembled that of a small child.

Rolling her eyes at what she assumed was her brother's attempt at playing it up for the crowd, Venetia directs the attention back to her.

"I already have so many plans for us! Let's go to my room and we can talk."

Her intentions were obvious.

Winnie was Venetia's, and she refused to share her with anyone—especially Felix. Still, as the two of them walked away together, their arms interlocked and their giggles drifting away into the distance, Felix held his gaze on them.

On her.

And from where Oliver is standing, he can still see the look of burning adoration behind Felix's brown eyes.

He recognized this easily because that was exactly how Oliver looked at him.

Tearing his eyes away from Felix, almost as if in physical pain, he tries to get one more look at Cousin Winnie before she disappears to Venetia's wing of the estate.

There was no denying that she was beautiful.

A beautiful, shiny toy that everyone wanted to play with.

And Felix was no exception.

For this reason, Oliver knew what needed to be done.

She would be the first to go.

She would be the first to go
