"I think we should start with the South patch of the forest. That's usually where most rogues tend to camp," Rowan said.

I nodded. "That's where we will start then. I'll have a word with Noella and see if she has any ideas." I looked to each of the soldiers to make sure we agreed adding, "We leave at dawn."

"Yes, Alpha," they all said in unison.

I turned around, expecting to find Noella standing where I left her, but she wasn't.

Panic bubbled, but I tamped it down. She had to be there somewhere. She couldn't have just left.

No, but she definitely could have been taken, my wolf said, his voice full of worry.

Not helping, I snapped back.

"Noella?" I called as I walked around.

Nothing. She wasn't there.

That time, the panic reached higher, clawing at my collarbone.

"Noella!" I called, louder this time, anxiety coating my voice.

My feet scrambled, going this way and that, searching, wanting, begging the universe to let her still be alive.

"Noella!" I called again as I trekked deeper through the woods.

I could wake the whole forest with how loud I was yelling, but I had no care in my head right now. Nothing except Noella's safety.

"Noella!" I shouted, my voice carrying through the bush.

"Nixx!" Kyler's voice rang out. "We're over here!"

My eyes finally reached a corner through the large trunks in front of me. Kyler was tugging Noella behind him as he walked towards me.

That bastard.

My mind blanked, feet moving before my brain had time to process they even twitched, and then I was in front of him.

I ripped him away from my mate, then threw his body backwards, shoving him up against the nearest tree as I growled, "What the hell were you thinking?"

It was then that I realized my wolf had taken over, but I couldn't get control back, not when this much anger was pulsing through my blood.

Kyler's hands went up, face turning away from my black stare as he explained, "I wasn't hurting her, buddy, I swear. We were just grabbing some wood."

My hands pushed harder, and Kyler grunted at the pressure.

"You lie!" My wolf snarled.

Suddenly hands were on my chest, pushing at it right before a head popped up in my vision.

"Stop it!" Noella demanded.

Her features bragged of confidence, but I saw the rigid set of her spine, the small crease in her forehead, and the slight tremble of her fingers.

I was scaring her.

"You're hurting him! He didn't do anything to me! And he is not lying! Look!" She pointed to a pile of twigs and sticks as she spoke, and guilt slowly crept up my throat.

"Let him go," she whispered, eyes boring into mine.

She no doubt saw the blackened gaze she held, but she didn't look away, didn't back down.

Her hands slid up, fingers lightly brushing my exposed neck, and a shiver ran through me, my hold on Kyler slipping.

"Just let go," she murmured once more.
