To those who struggle to find their meaning and purpose in life, to the point that all they wish is that they had never been born...

the burden of her birth

with all the hardships that came her way,
she wished to vanish, to fade far away.
battles and struggles, she fought through the storm
but in the end, she hated the day she was born.

the day when she took her very first breath,
the day when she felt life, but also felt death,
the day when she saw this world for the first time,
the day when her heart began its first rhyme.

each year, when her birthday quietly came,
she'd walk to the ocean to gaze at the waves,
she'd sit on the shore and whisper her name,
wondering why she was given these painful days.

she'd stare at the water and think of the past,
of times when she wished her pain wouldn't last.
she'd watch as the waves crashed hard on the shore,
hearing them pound, then crash once more.

her birthday to her was a burden, a curse,
a reminder of moments that couldn’t be worse.
no candles or cakes, no laughter or cheers,
everything felt like mockery through her tears.

she'd remember the moments she felt so alone,
the nights when she wished she could turn into stone.
the friends who had left her, the love that had flown,
the world was so harsh, and her hatred had grown.

she'd ask, "why am I here? what is life for?"
"Is there still a reason to keep on, or not anymore?"
she'd think of the heartache, the troubles, the fear,
and wish that the day she was born would disappear.

the weight of her birth was a chain on her soul,
a mark on the calendar that made her feel low.
as she sat by the sea, with the wind in her hair,
she'd whisper to no one, "does anyone even care?"

the sky would grow dark as the sun slipped away,
leaving her there with the thoughts she'd replay.
she'd walk back in silence, with nothing to say,
wishing she’d never been born on that very day.
