The way the sun was streaming through the windows and the heat of the body next to me felt like de ja vu. I opened my eyes and was greeted again by Jay’s brown eyes,

“Morning.” I tried to sit up without making all the food that we left on the bed fall onto the floor, the thought of clearing all this mess up with a pounding headache made me wince, obviously he found this funny but his laugh just made my headache more pronounced,

“Shut up Jay.” I threw a nearby pillow in his direction,

“Hey, that’s no way to treat your mate!” a cocky smirk appeared on his face, before I could give an answer a sharp ring pierced through the air, he answered it giving me an apologetic look. He climbed out of the bed and left the room. After a few minutes of waiting patiently for Jay to come back, a masculine voice called me; I got out of bed and was surprised to see that I still had my dress on from yesterday, no doubt that my make-up had been smudged all over my face, I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen where Jay was,

“Yeah?”  I sat down on one of the stools only for him to lift me back up again and sit me back down on his lap,

“I have to go to the emergency pack meeting in about an hour, so I was wondering if you wanted to come.” I thought about it for a few minutes and I was still arguing with myself. I mean the last time I went to a meeting was after my dad died, 9 years ago! What would the other wolves say? But on the other hand it was my duty as Alpha female to go and support Jay. So I did what my mum would do,

“Yeah, I’d like to come.” He exhaled sharply and a grin spread across his face,

“I get to show you off!” I laughed at his immaturity; this was definitely a side that I’d never seen of Jay. But that was kinda my fault, I’d pushed anything to do with wolves away and made judgements.

“But…” his face fell slightly at that, “You have to let me come to one of the private meetings, I have a few suggestions to make.” He looked conflicted for a second, and then he reluctantly grumbled a yes. I did a mental celebratory dance in my mind.

“But first I need to take some advil and take a shower before I go anywhere with you.” I pushed off his lap and quickly washed the pills down with a glass of cold water,

“I’m going to go home and get ready; I’ll pick you up in an hour.” Jay kissed my cheek quickly and left.

As I showered I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d made the right choice associating with Jay and the pack, bundles of nerves erupted in my empty stomach as I thought about facing the pack I had pushed away. I had also pushed away my inner wolf away, I’d locked her away in the depths of my body and because of that I hadn’t shifted for years and now I was scared. What if I needed to shift one day if I was in danger? I stopped my train of thought, shut the water and quickly got dressed in a blue summer dress; I brushed my hair and my teeth quickly. I found myself downstairs in the kitchen pacing; I was too hungry to even think about eating anything. I nearly screamed as a dishevelled Alex came into the kitchen, his hair was messed up; his eyes were blood-shot, no doubt that he had an alcohol and drug hangover,
