Chapter 19

I walked up the stairs silently, caring my shoes in my hand. I looked down at the courtyard, which was practically empty. The only people that were there were the janitors, cleaning up. Elliott said that the door would be open for me, and hoped that was true. I opened the door to the second floor of the school and walked in, closing it slowly behind me. I walked down the hallway, and walked to his door, which wasn't far from the door leading outside. I turned the knob, and to my luck, it was open.

I opened the door a little, then squeezed inside. I let it close behind me on its own, then looked around at the dark classroom.

"Elliott?" I whispered into the darkness. I walked into the classroom further, using the only little light I had- the light from the moon shining through the window. "Are you here?"

I felt a strong arm wrap around my waist and a hand cover my mouth. I almost screamed, until I realized the scent coming from his jacket, and laughed instead.

"I know it's you," I said quietly.

His lips touched my ear. "Is it?" he whispered. I felt chills go down my spine as his breath hit my ear.

I turned my head sideways. "Positive," I whispered back. He spun my around and I looked up at him. He smiled down at me, then touched my lips softly with his thumb.

"Do I get my dance now?" he asked. "I sure hope no one took that chance from me."

I smiled and my eyes softened. "Of course you can have your dance."

He let go of me and stepped back a few feet. "Well then let me do this properly." He bowed, holding his hand out to me. All I could see was his silhouette, but that was more than enough for me.  "May I have this dance, Ms. Winters?"

I tried to hold back a laugh, but failed. I took his hand. "Of course you may." He closed his hand around mine and pulled me against his body. I hit his chest with mine, and he wrapped his arm around my waist. I put my arm on his shoulder and let him lead as we swayed to the silent music.

I stared up at him, and he stared down at me. I felt myself beginning to blush again and looked down. He removed his hand from my waist and lifted my chin up with his index finger. I looked up again, and he put his lips on mine softly. We still swayed, dancing to the unheard music. I pulled my lips off of his and rested my head on his chest. He rested his cheek on the top of my head as we slowly danced in the darkness of the classroom.

"When's your birthday?" he asked, twirling a piece of my hair.

"December fifteenth, why?" I asked.

"I'm curious," he answered. I laid on his arm, comforted and warm. We had snuck out of the classroom and moved to the football field, which was completely deserted. It was almost one o'clock in the morning, and the moon was shining on us brightly. I wondered if my mom was waiting up for me. I told Daniel I had gotten a ride home with another friend, but I didn't imagine I would be out this late.

"Well now you know," I said, playing with his thumb. "When's yours?"

"March seventh," he said, twisting one of my curls. The grass beneath us was warm, and I loved the breeze brushing against us.

"Pisces, huh?" I commented.

"Yeah."

I reached inside the tiny pocket in my dress and pulled out my cell phone. I put it on his chest. "Here. Put your number in."

He looked at me expectantly, then put his number into my phone. He handed it back to me and I slipped it back into my pocket. "Thanks. Now I can text you goodnight."
