"One who doesn't respect a woman is not a man", read the quote.

'Respect is given to a person, not to a gender', I thought.

I know that this is slightly debatable, but in my opinion, respect is something which has to be earned. And also, why should we divide respect based on the gender? We should respect every single person, no matter they're female or male.
