Chapter Ten

Eliza

It was Friday night, and I was sitting outside Divers in Terra's car. We'd just finished closing the place. Before we could roll out of the parking lot, J.T. drove up in his fancy pick-up truck. Terra was currently sitting shotgun in his passenger seat locking lips with the guy. My window was down and every now and then I could hear her giggle. It was awkward, to say the least; but, at this point, it was better than going home. These days home was...smothering.

I'd already called daddy to let him know I'd be home later than normal. He hadn't asked many questions since I'd lied told him that I'd be hanging out at Terra's house. I couldn't stand one more second in that house with Austin.

Every time he was close, which was most of the time considering he slept in the room below mine, my body did weird things. My heart would start racing, my body would suddenly feel flush and the space between my legs would begin pulsing. I'd never actually known what need felt like before now and now that I did, it felt constant. Especially when he was around.

I reached over, hitting the car horn a few times to hurry her up. Terra didn't know anything that had happened yet. I meant to tell her the next morning after church, but when we met up, I suddenly didn't feel like church was the most appropriate place to tell her about how I'd basically had to beg him to take my virginity. Plus, we soon as I walked out of those double doors, I could feel his eyes on me-watching me like a damn hawk. Even though I knew Terra would keep her mouth shut about something as private as this was, I didn't want him to think I'd betrayed his trust. Especially when I knew that when I first asked him to have me, the look of unease was clear on his face. It was even more so tense after the deed was done.

So, I decided to wait to tell her.

Then, the drive-in had been packed since summer was finally in full swing. Divers was one of the most popular hang-outs for the younger kids. Therefore, I hadn't really had much opportunity to really talk to her over the past five days.

Suddenly, the jerk of the driver's side door pulled me from my thoughts. Terra fell into the car-her hair was a mess and a red tint covered her pale skin. When I looked out the window, I noticed J.T.'s truck had pulled in closer to my side. His arm was draped over the window seal, holding a lit cigarette. I slowly looked over to him and wanted to cringe. If I didn't already know how much of a douche he was, I might have thought he was handsome in a very...Rough type of way. His curly hair was wild around his ears, and he had big brown eyes that would make most women swoon. He was tall and burly.

I rolled my eyes as a light smirk crossed his lips, "When you gonna come round, Ms. Hart? I got a friend that just about unloads in his pants every time he hears yer name. Not that that's news to ya. There ain't a man in the delta that wouldn't love a piece of what you got to offer."

This time, I did cringe. Heat filled my cheeks, and my hands began tugging at my dress, even though I knew he couldn't see me. This guy made me uncomfortable. He always had which is why I did my absolute best to stay away from him. I briefly wondered, again, what Terra saw in the guy.  I told myself it wasn't my business.
