Princess and Monster
Alice checks the kitchen watch, desperate for some peace and quiet. Half past seven, still a bit early to tuck the gremlins in. But she'll write a test tomorrow and would gladly spend some of her babysitting time behind her physics books.
"Okay, folks, time for bed. Let's clean up this mess and get ready."
Half an hour later, the twins have their teeth brushed and climb into their beds. Alice's jeans bear witness of encounters with finger paint, toothpaste and Nutella. Her mind is exhausted before she even opens her books. But the ordeal isn't over yet.
"Ally, tell us a story!"
"I'm too tired, and you two took forever to finish for bed."
"But we're not tired. Tell us a story. One about the monster under my bed. Please?"
Little Max pleads with irresistible puppy eyes. Alice tousles his hair and looks over at Sally who seems to be near tears.
"Not about a monster. I want to hear about a princess."
Internally admitting defeat, Alice sits down on the fluffy carpet between the twins' beds.
"Well then. This is the story of the beautiful Princess and her fearsome Monster."
