                                                               Chapter 3:

The last of my dream vanished as I fought back a cringe that made its way up my back at the sound of my door landing with a hard thud on the wooden floor.  I had no idea why my new Alpha would be so mad that he would storm up into my dwarf-sized room and rip the door off of its hinges, and quite frankly I wasn’t looking forward to the reason.  Carter already had a bad temper by himself and now pair that with being Alpha.  Yeah, I’m screwed.

I could hear his breathing unsteady and shaky, coming out in short puffs.  He was pissed and most likely at me, though I had no idea why.  I just hoped I wouldn’t get a bad lashing for whatever I did this time.

I took in a few gulps of air and risked sneaking a peek at his looming form.  As my eyes wandered to him I fought the urge to stumble back some.  I blinked a few times to make sure I was seeing correctly and sleep still wasn’t playing with me.  After about the fifth time my eyes started to hurt and I chanced glancing at him again.  He looked exactly the same.

Sure Carter was always really attractive but when did he become so….. HOT?!  Honestly he looked like he changed just over night.  He had to at least grown four inches overnight, he looked slightly hunched over so his head wouldn’t scrape the top of my 6’3 high ceiling beams.  His hair was still that same straight brown, messed to perfection in that just rolled out of bed look.  But, he managed to make it sexy.  His lips seemed fuller and pinker then the last time I saw him not ten hours ago, and they were pulled down in the infamous scowl that he reserved just for me.  His high cheekbones and perfectly straight nose were the same.  But, wait?!  That could not be stubble that coated his chin, he was only 16 years old… TODAY!!!!  How was that possible?  He seemed to age to a ripe 20 overnight.  Not to mention that he just seemed bigger.  Everywhere I looked I was greeted with pure muscle.  Sure being varsity quarterback required enough muscle to pass a football 50 yards and to take hits but this was just insane!  As my eyes ate him up I reached his and I brought my hand up to cover the gasp that made its way past my lips.  When did his eyes become so green?  They were so alive.  I never saw his eyes so vibrant, ever.

Seeing his eyes brought me back to my dream and I could hear the gears in my head move.  With every little ‘click’ of the gears my eyes widened even more.  I knew I recognized the werewolf from my dream because that werewolf was Carter.  My mind reeled again.  How could this muscled werewolf turn into that frail bag of bones that I just saw in my dreams?  How is that even possible?  Yet, I knew he was the same were.  That only arose more questions, but before I could delve farther into the connection of my dream Carter and reality Carter I was ripped from my thoughts by growling werewolves.

I looked up instantly and immediately cowered back from the amount of male werewolves in the room.  Two other men had entered the room, one brown haired man and one with a buzz cut.  I recognized them as being part of the guard sector of the pack.  They basically hid in the shadows of the borderline and were our first defense.  They were usually the male weres that grew a bit bigger but didn’t have a ranking in the pack.   They weren’t as big as Carter’s 6’4 frame but that was still saying something.  So why were they in my small room?  Everyone knew that I wasn’t a threat in the pack.  If I was they wouldn’t be picking on me all the time.  There was no need to bring the guards into my room and scare me to death.  All three muscled male werewolves took up most of my room space.  They made everything dwarf-like in my room, including me.  It didn’t help me to try to control my erratic heartbeat.  I was beyond nervous and beyond scared.
