One Sentence Description

"A combination of tragedy and comedy--worth the tears and kills you with fluff."

Plot
★★★☆☆

As the title goes, it is divided into seven lifetimes. Each lifetime, the characters face a different conflict that is not related to the previous life's conflict. There's not a lot going on. The premise of the plot starts and revolves around the bickering characters---how they should interact with each other. Each lifetime is separate from each other. However, what I like about it is that by the end of each lifetime, there will be a progress on the relationship among characters. Each lifetime has its own uniqueness and charm. It's like seven short unfortunate stories interlaced to weave a great ending.

Pacing
★★★★☆

The pace is refreshingly fast. Some novels progressed so fast that the readers will be shocked how scenes just jumped out of nowhere. In this case, the author pulled it off such that the novel will not be shockingly fast or unnecessarily dragged out.

Characters
★★★★☆

The characters are downright incompatible at the start of the novel. As the plot progress, the character growth of the male lead, Chu Kong, is more apparent compared to the growth of the protagonist. In fact, he grew the most as a character in the story. The protagonist, Xiang Zi, did grew towards the end of the novel. I hope she improved more as a character. It made me view Chu Kong more as a protagonist compared to Xiang Zi. My favorite character is Lu Hai Kong, Chu Kong's first incarnate. I almost did not want to part with him to continue reading the next lifetimes! Aside from them, the side characters also have their own spotlight. Zihui's story especially made me cry. Because not all love stories are meant to continue--life needs to continue.

World Building
★★★☆☆

The world building is good. Each lifetime took me to different settings that made the story work. It follows the worlds that have already been established in myths and in the past dynasties. That made it made it easier to visualize. However, since it is not really a new world, I'm giving it three stars.

Narration
★★★★☆

Excellent. Well-written and well-translated. It made me hooked on reading every chapter. I stayed up all night for this novel.

Overall Impression
★★★★☆

It made my cheap tears ran out. Among all the lifetimes, the first lifetime gave me the biggest impression. It made me cry the most and unable to part with the story. I'm weak on tragedies. I swear I savored the painful emotions, appreciating the sadness in my heart. After I had my fill from all those angst, only then did I continued reading. The second and last few lifetimes evoked a different kind of emotion within me. I love it.
