Chapter No. 37

Austin's POV:

Walking downstairs, I see my parents kissing and Malie is nowhere to be seen, "Guys can you continue this when you're poor children are not at home?"

They break apart, mom giggling and dad, well not in a good mood, I smile at him, hey what kind of son would I be if I didn't break them apart, "One of these days, son... Just you wait."

He shakes his head and heads over to the dining room. I go to the kitchen to drink water when I spot mom and Malie chatting. While Malie is putting finishing touches to... Well I don't know what it is since her body is blocking it. But by the sweet smell filling the air I can it's something definitely sweet.

I go to them and back hug her. She yelps at the sudden contact and I chuckle to it but she instantly relaxes, "A warning would be nice." She pouts.

"Where would be the fun in that?" I smile kiss her the side of her head and put my chin on her should and see she's made crepes with chocolate and fruits filling.

"It looks yummy." I comment.

"Oh it is, it's Daniel and Scarlet's favorite, and on every weekend they have me make it." She giggles.

"And I am third wheeling ain't I?" Mom pouts.

"Yeah, you are..." I reply rolling my eyes at her.

Malie on the other hand elbows me making me loosen my grip, "Thank God! There is someone who can put my son in his place." Dad says, rather exaggerates coming into the kitchen.

"Oh come on really?" I say in disbelief.

"Think of this as payback for the years you've been torturing me, now it's my turn and I am gonna thoroughly enjoy." Dad says sliding his arm around mom's waist.

On the other hand the women in the kitchen just chuckle at us, "Alright, dear, Austin go sit down, I and Amalie will serve everything." Mom said.

Going to the dining room I see Sese coming down the stairs and yawning and clearly looking like she just woke up. See this is the thing I and Serena have mostly have our dad's personality whereas the love for food we take from our mom. At least she freshened up.

"Morning, people!" Serena says yawning entering and seeing us me and dad seated while mom and Malie serving the last items.

"Woah! What is this heavenly smell?" She says now completely awake.

"If you mean this, then this Nutella crepes filled with  berries, I hope you like them." Malie smiles.

She takes the first bite and moans, "Oh God! This doesn't only smell heavenly but tastes heavenly as well! You have to teach me how to make them!"

And yup like Sese said they really are heavenly. Malie really does have a talent for cooking.

Leaving the room first I go to my room and call Brian, "Hello?"

"Brian, the breaks on Malie's car was really tampered weren't they?" I say cutting to the chase.

He sighs on the other end, "Yeah, just got an update from Jason, also Jason told me something more weird which confirms that someone out to end the James family."

"What?" I ask now afraid to even know.

"Someone tried to kidnap Mabelle from her school. If not for her brother for being sharp minded; things could have become very complicated."

"And we have no leads? Wasn't the person captured by Jason's men?" I ask infuriated.

"Yeah, but before we could get anything out from him he was murdered. Someone was one step ahead of us. And shot him. The moment they knew that their plan was ruined they killed him. I think we need to talk to David to get the details of who his enemies are and still trying to target them even after all this time." Brian explained.

My fist connected with the wall, "Damn it! Malie has suffered enough so has her family yet they still want to destroy them. Brian do whatever it takes to find out."

"Will do. I have some documents relating to her past as well meet me in my office. I've already asked Jack and Daniel to come there."

"Okay I'll reach there in an hour, and remember to keep everything under wraps. No matter what Malie can't know. Okay?"

"Yup, that's the plan." Brian cuts the call.

I sigh, and rub my temple, sitting down on the bed and put my phone to the side. At that moment Malie enters, "Is everything alright?" seeing my stressed face.

"Yeah, everything is alright. Just some stupid meeting."

She looks at me not believing a word I said, I sigh, "I have this meeting coming up in France and I don't want to go..." I half lie and half tell the truth.

Yeah there really is a meeting in France but of course that isn't the reason for me stressing out, "So what's the big deal?" She asks sitting in front of me but on her knees.

"Oh and also you said that you were going out of city yesterday but then suddenly you're meeting was cancelled, what's going on Austin?" Malie now asks sternly.

I keep my poker face on, "I had someone from my office go before hand just to make sure that the terms of project were practical but they weren't benefitting the company so I called it off. I wanted to surprise you so ta-da." At the end I chuckled.

She just shook her head, and smiled, "Come on Austin, tell me the real reason why you're not wanting to go to France?"

Racking my mind to find an answer I remember suddenly and pretend to sigh, "Fine you caught me, actually there is a reason, my mom being a chatter mouth told mes grands-parents that I have a girlfriend, and now they've been me bugging ever since to let them meet her... Which is the reason I don't want to go to there." [TR: my grand-parents]

Malie's eyes widen and that assures me that she's believed my half lie and half-truth, my mom really did tell mes grands-parents about Malie, and they really have been bugging me about meeting her, but other than that if she's with me I can protect her better.

"Okay, so let me get this straight, your grandparents want to meet me?"

"Yup." I reply.

She plops down on the bed next to me after my reply and runs her hands through her hair, something that I've picked up she does when she's nervous or stressed, either this or fiddling with her thumbs.

I turn my body towards her, "Malie, what's wrong?" And her hands in mine

"It's just that... I don't mind meeting them... It's just that what if they don't like me?" She sighs.

"Oh believe me, they'll love you. If anything, they hated my previous girlfriend for all the right reasons. You're nothing like Alexis and you have faced more demons than anyone I've ever known." I smile at her genuinely.

"That's what I'm afraid of... Once they know the dangers I come with I doubt they would ever like me. Come on, Austin be realistic... No one wants their children in harm's way." She said bowing her head.

Then it clicks what she's really afraid of, I gently out my fingers beneath her chin and raise her face so that I can see her eyes, "Chérie, let me tell you something."
