Waking up next to Alex the next day, I felt like I was in some sort of dream, real life could not be this great, could it?! I mean, I'd had a pretty nice life, I really couldn’t complain but I don’t think anyone would say I lived a charmed existence by any means. My family always joked that if it wasn’t for bad luck, we wouldn’t have any luck at all.

But all this... this place and this man...it was unreal. Maybe this was how life was for the über wealthy all the time? Maybe this was just business as usual for people that vacation at places like this on a regular basis.

But I really don’t think that was the case, I knew this was something special -- something I had been saving up all my luck for, for this exact moment, for just this occasion.

I looked over at Alex sleeping peacefully next to me. He was even better looking asleep, which I wouldn’t have thought possible. His dark lashes fanned out onto his cheeks and he had the slightest smile on his face as he slept. I felt the completely contradictory emotions of wanting to watch him sleep forever and wanting him to wake up immediately.

But then I realized that this was my first “morning after” ever and felt a moment of panic, would things be super awkward? Should I go brush my teeth? Make breakfast? Maybe I should leave, wait this was my place, I can’t lea--

“Charlie?” Alex’s gravely voice interrupted my panic spiral. He sat up, looking at me, clearly concerned. “Are you alright? You have an extremely pained look on your face. Did you not sleep well?”

“No, I slept great,” I replied honestly.

“Good, me too. Now come back here,” he pulled me over onto his chest. I snuggled in and he kissed the top of my head.

“Do you have any plans for today?” I asked, trailing my fingers along his lightly furred chest.

“Not a thing. You?”

“Nope.” We sat in companionable silence for a few minutes and I almost fell back asleep as he stroked my hair.

“Charlie?”

“Hm?”

“Fancy a swim?” he asked.

I looked up at him lazily. “That sounds like a lot of work, getting dressed and schlepping all our stuff?” I teased.

“If we just use your pool, we don’t have to get dressed at all,” he said, waggling his eyebrows suggestively.

“Skinny dipping? What a delightfully naughty suggestion, sir. I think --,” my thought was interrupted by the phone by the side of the bed ringing loudly. “Ah, saved by the bell, that’s never happened to me in real life before! I bet it’s the resort seeing if we need more snacks in the kitchen. Is there anything special you want?” He shook his head as I sat up and grabbed the phone, swinging my legs over the side of the bed.

“Hello?”

“Charlie? It’s Maggie,” her voice sounded kind of strange, which immediately made me panic.

“Is everything ok? What’s going on?”

“Yeah, everything’s fine, I just wanted to talk to you about something in person and wanted to make sure you were there before I came over.”

“It’s all of...,” I glanced at the clock on the bedside table, “8:07 am, Mags, where did you think I would be?”

There was nothing but silence on Maggie’s end, then, “Um, are you, uh, alone?”
