The next morning came quickly and i was rather excited. I got up before the sun even rose and got changed in what I wanted to wear. I wore my favorite lavender gown with long sleeves and put on my cloak then grabbed the knives I got for Obi and went on my way to the blacksmiths cave. Buck wasn't here so early yet so I was alone while I worked. All I did was sharpen the knives then engraved Obi's name on the handle. I fell like it was a nice touch. By the time I was done, the sun had risen well into the sky but was still a while before noon. Buck had even been out here for a while as well before I finished. I was sharpening the last knife before Rue found me. I guess i forgot he started today.
"Princess!" He shouted through heavy breaths, "how long have you been out here for?" He asked as he tried to calm down and walked by my side.
"Uh, a while before the sun came up. What time is it?" I asked as i packaged the knives back up.
"10 am. You need breakfast and you cant work yourself for so long or you'll get hurt" he told me calmly and followed me out to the path covered in metled salt and snow.
"Oh no.. I completely forgot my time limit.." i muttered before smacking my forehead, "i promised Zen I'd have a time limit and I've forgotten about it after he left in October" i sighed to myself.
"He made you have a time limit, princess?.." Rue asked in confusion.
"Yes, well, it was my fault. I worked all night one time and the whole day following. I even passed out that afternoon but he didnt find out till he finished working and-" i ranted before sighing, "i overworked myself and worried him again. My hands were covered in cuts and blisters and bruises so he told me I needed a time limit and I've always followed it so I wouldnt worry him anymore but i guess I forgot.." i explained and felt bad. My hands aren't hurt thankfully. I'll remember my time limit now.
"I see.. He was right to give you that limit, you work far too hard without a care for your own well being" Rue told me as he walked behind me. I walked inside and back to my room.
"He said the same thing a long time ago" I laughed after hearing that. "Im sure ill work myself to death one day. No wonder my father made you my aid" I told him with a smile as i opened my bedroom door. He stayed well outside of it though and didnt even look inside. I set down the knives on my bed before going back out to him. "The maids weren't looking for me were they?" I asked with a sigh as I shut my door and began to walk to the kitchen.
"They were actually. They had a few gowns you needed to try on today for your trip back to Clarines for Prince Izona's wedding" he explained and walked with me.
"Wonderful.." i groaned as i opened the door to the kitchen.
"Princess! You were late to breakfast again!" Ms. Nina shouted suddenly with anger in her tone
"I-Im sorry, i was working on something for Obi" i explained and put my hands in front of me while she pointed her wooden spoon at me just like my mother used to do when she always threatened me.
"Working with Buck again? You're going to kill yourself with all this one day.." she sighed before noticing Rue. "Oh! Who is this, highness?" She asked in surprise and took my hand.
"This is Rue, think nothing of him. He just likes following me around" i grinned and was trying to mess with Rue.
"Princess, that is my duty as your aid" Rue explained while i rolled my eyes.
Ms. Nina gasped after hearing the news, "Obi wont like this.." she giggled and keep peeking at Rue behind me.
"I know, he'll absolutely hate me once he hears.." i giggled back. I bet I'm probably making Rue neverous to meet Obi. I'm sure they'll fight or something so Rue can prove himself to Obi somehow but itll be fine.
"Well, I still have your breakfast if you want it" she told me before picking up a wrapped up plate.
"Thank you for saving it. I'll try not to be tardy again" i told her as i took the plate.
"The day your not tardy is the day I retire" she rolled her eyes as i giggled and walked out to another room. Its quiet and big and is filled with windows.
"Hey Rue, if there's something you wanna do today you can just tell me" i said as i sat down at the little table and ate while keeping a book in front of me.
"Theres nothing that comes to mine, princess." He answered plainly and stood at the door far from me which was a little annoying but he'll warm up to how I do things eventually.
I finished breakfast at my own pace but felt nervous because Rue was the in the back just waiting on me. I put down my book and took my plate with me to the door.
"Princess, shall I return this for you?" Rue asked as i opened the door for myself instead of walking through his already opened door.
"You shall not" i answered plainly and lead the way back to the kitchen. I leave my plate in the sink like usual before going to my office. Yes, I have an office but im not usually in here.
"Princess, I have a question" Rue began as i pulled a few books off the shelf to study.
"Okay, shoot" i said with a smile as i went back to my desk and sat down.
"Why is it that you're so friendly towards the kitchen staff and other people here?" He asked and was standing by the book shelf.
"I dont know" i shrugged, "Why wouldn't I be?" I asked as i began to study more laws and such.
"Usually royals and nobles dont speak to their staff. They just nod or smile but for some reason you feel the need to be friendly. Why is that?" He asked in genuine confusion. Hes only seen how Dominic acted before now so I understand.
"Because people should be treated with more respect. Besides, if they like their job and feel more comfortable serving whomever it is then the outcome will be better, dont you think?" I asked as i read and wrote down these new laws, "And even before all that, it just feels good to feel welcomed. Talking to the staff like your friend makes you feel more comfortable and happy too.. Its not so lonely that way" i told him with a soft smile and kept writting.
"I see.. Ill try to become more like you then." He said which sort of surprised me so i looked over to him but he still couldn't look at me. "I have a lot to learn but id like you to be comfort and feel welcomed around me as well, princess" He told me. I smiled a little bigger after hearing that.
"Well," i began as i went back to writting, "you could start by dropping the titles" i told him with a little grin.
"No." He said so firmly that I burst out laughing.
"What if i called you 'prince' with every sentence I spoke to you?" I laughed and put back down my pen.
"I have no such title, there is no need" he told me and was even starting to glare at the wall he was staring at. Maybe I'm beginning to annoy him.
"You wouldn't like being called that if you feel like youre no royal, would you?" I asked with a little grin as i set my head in my hand.
"I wouldnt.." he muttered.
"Neither do i." I grinned. He let out a soft breath and looked defeated.
"Im sorry you feel that way, princess" he answered after a while.
"Yeah, me too" i sighed before letting my little smile show.
I got back to work after that and he stayed standing the entire time.. literally two hours. A whole two hours passed and he was still standing. He didnt even walk around, he just stayed there.
"Rue, sit down on the windowsill" i command and pointed my thumb behind me.
"Yes, highness, but why?" He asked as he sat down for the first time in two hours.
"Because I don't want you to pass out if you lock your knees by accident" i quietly giggled. "You really did hold out a while though, nice job" i told him sarcastically.
"I could stand all day if I was asked to, princess" he answered quickly.
"Yeah, yeah.." i rolled my eyes. "Ill be in here for a few more hours working. Feel free to take a nap at the window. I'll wake you if something happens" i told him as i continued to study these books.
"Understood, highness" he said from behind. I could see him sitting comfortably behind me against the wall like I always did around Zen. He doesnt sound like he'll actually fall asleep though.
"If you'd like, you could also go to the library and bring something back to waste time. I know it gets boring being in such a quiet space.." i offered while i worked and remembered Obi. He was always bored even if he wouldn't admit to it. He liked to nap or read often times to waste the time.
"Im not bored at all. I find your presence comforting and relaxing. It gives me time to think" he said as i looked at him through the glass of my picture frame.
"What is it that you're thinking about if you don't mind me asking?.." i wondered and pretended to work but was really just watching him.
"How different things are here with you than with Dominic.." he answered softly.
"I hope things here are better than they were ealier.." i said as i thought back to my time in Alfin too.
"Ive never had such a relaxing day like this.. Im not sure if I could get used to using no titles or becoming less polite but im trying to become someone you can trust besides that.." he answered and looked in thought.
"I trust you." I told him and meant it, "Its easy to tell what things you've gone through, your scars aren't helping hide your secrets either" i told him with a little smile.
"Yours too.. I saw what he did to your arm that day.. You were only 16.." he muttered and looked so sad. I turned around in my chair to face him but he still couldn't look at me.
"Yes but wounds heal. Unfortunately the scar it left behind is still there. I cant tell you how worried my friends were when I told them about that interrogation" i chuckled as i leaned back in my chair.
"Why do you have that one in your cheek?.. Was that his doing as well?.." he asked softly and was looking at his feet.
"Yep, it was. Same with the one on my neck and chest and other scattered ones but they're healed" i shrugged, "i also have a long one on the back of my thigh but that was kind of my fault. Zen was so mad at himself for that one" i giggled and thought about that night.. that was the first time we ever kissed..
"What happened?.. I dont recall hearing about that?.." he asked curioisly.
"Remember the night before my family's funeral and my house caught fire?" I asked with a smile.
"He planned it from the the beginning.." Rue muttered and grit his teeth.
"Well, I jumpped through the window to get something and cut a long gash along the back of my thigh. Zen was so mad at himself that I got hurt like that while he was with me but it was my fault. He carried me back inside and all I could do was apologize for bringing him to that horrible place.. He got hurt too but he was okay.." i told him as i thought back to that day. "That night we also.. We.." I muttered as a blush rose. "U-Uh well in the heat of the moment he kissed me.." i muttered in embarrassment and turned back around to my desk.
"It must have been your first kiss together then" Rue chuckled from behind me.
"Maybe.." i muttered in embarrassment.
"It sounds like you were made for each other by the sound of these stories, princess" he laughed.
"Well dont tell him I told you or else he'll tease me till we die" i muttered with a little blush.
"You already have my word. Everything stays between us" he told me kindly.
"Good" i nodded.
The second half of my day after lunch was just me trying on new dresses for Izona's wedding. The next day I had to pack up and leave for Clarines which was exciting. I took the gifts I bought and made with me in a tightly locked case then got on the road with Rue. He road on horse back while someone steered my carraige. It was still freezing but I fell asleep quickly thanks to the warmth of my blanket. We had to stop at night at a hotel because it was getting too late to keep going. It was absolutely freezing and I was worried that Rue and the driver of my carraige might have gotten a bit sick but they were alright. They had on a lot of layers for this trip. For the next two days we traveled and stopped for the night but the last night was nice. We stopped at the same Inn that Zen found me at. When we stopped i told Rue about the hot baths but he said he wouldn't take one so he could stand watch. What a party pooper.. So i went in by myself. There were lots of women in there but they didn't notice who I was although they did notice my scars but I didnt talk about them. I stayed in the bath far longer than i should have but I felt so relaxed and happy because I knew in the moring id be back in Wistal castle with Zen. When I finally got out I met Rue somewhere near the entrance waiting for me.
"Princess, your hair is still wet. You'll catch a cold" Rue warned me as i sighed.
"If you call me that here then someone will recognize me. In Clarines, people will crowd and get loud so we can't let them know" i explained as i walked back towards our rooms.
"That was when they knew you as a warrior, now you're a princess. They wouldn't dare to do such thing" he told me sternly.
"Oh.. Maybe you're right.." i muttered in thought. Thats probably true.. "Do you wanna hear a story?" I asked with a smile as i changed direction and instead walked us to the dinning area.
"Of course, highness" he nodded. He could have said no..
"Like, actually want to hear it?" I raised and eyebrow and grinned.
"Yes, I do" he chuckled as i seated us at a small table.
"When i first came to Clarines I was happy but then I noticed Obi following me. I hadnt seen him since we were kids so I knew he was after me on Dominic's orders" i explained as a nice woman gave us some drinks.
"Yes, he requested Obi bring you back to make you his concubine but he knew Obi wouldn't do it so I dont know why that happened still" Rue told me and began to relax. He still hasn't looked me in the eyes after these past days but he will eventually.
"Yes, so Obi took me away. We were caught in bad weather and stopped her for the night. I went to take a bath in the same one I did earlier but Shirayuki and Kiki found me. They had never seen me without a cloak and mask before so they didn't know it was me right away but earlier that day I had explained to Shirayuki what my hair looked like" I went on.
"I remember, it was a very long before a while ago" Rue said in thought.
"Well, Shirayuki figured out it was me so everyone came running after me. Zen found my room but I had left out the window with Obi. We ended up at some old mansion where a kid tried to kidnap me and sell me but instead I kicked his butt and fell out a window where Zen had been waiting to catch me below" i sighed and shook my head, "but i ran away from him. I thought Dominic would kill everyone if I stayed with them so I just kept running. I went back to the inn and hid in my room where i immediately passed out. I didnt have my cloak or mask anymore and when Zen came in to save me again he saw me for the first time." I explained.
"Really? What happened?.." Rue asked curioisly. Like, actually being interested in the story.
"I woke up and yelled at him. He had never heard me talk before and looked so shocked" i laughed. "I told him everything that night with Obi. Then things kept getting better after that. I moved to Clarines and became his sentinel and Obi got to stay too" i smiled.
"You have so many amazing stories with these people. Im honored ill be able to meet them" Rue told me and still wasn't looking in my eyes ugh.
"Yes well, when Zen realizes you can't look him in the eyes either he'll probably try to convince you to just the same as he did with me" i laughed.
"It amazes me how much they changed you.. Even from a distance I could see how much you suffered from Dominic but it doesn effect you at all now.. im envious.." he explained quietly with a lowered head.
"Then look at me" i smiled and stared right at him. He was so scared and hesitant but tried anyway. His eyes are a light brown that matched his brown hair color well. Hes such a nice looking man, but hes just a boy on the inside. "That isn't so hard is it?" I smiled with a little tilt of my head. His eyes widened a bit and he face turned a little pink.
"Princess, you really are beautiful" he said to me. I guess thats a good to hear for it being his first time to actually look me in the eyes.
"Thanks" i smiled happily. "Im gonna go to bed first and get ready for tomorrow. I cant wait for you to meet everyone" i told him as i stood up.
"Good night, princess" he said as i waved bye.
I didnt get much sleep that night though. I was so excited to see everyone again that I stayed up all night doing nothing! Then we got back in the carraige in the morning and I completely passed out... But i woke up once we got to the castle. Its still as beautiful as ever..
"Princess, we've arrived" Rue told me as he opened my door.
"O-Oh, gosh, I hope i look okay.." i muttered in a quiet panic and tired to fix myself.
"Your hair.. may i?" He asked and was finally looking me in the eyes. I think i finally broke him.
"Yes, thank you" i smiled and let him smooth down my hair a bit before he fixed my hair pin from behind.
"Now you're ready. The princes are waiting for you" he told me with a small smile and helped me out of the carraige.
"I feel nervous for some reason.." i whispered to him before we started walking. He stayed by myside but a little behind.
"Y/n, nice to see you again. Thank you for coming and being so understanding about the situation regarding yours and Zen's meeting cancelation" Izona said. Why doesn't he have to start out with that?..
"Thank you for inviting me" i bowed to him.
"I suppose ill leave you to Zen now. We'll see each other soon enough" Izona said before walking off quickly.
"Im sorry about this situation.. I know it hasn't been so easy on you.." Zen apologized first before anything else. I didnt really care for his apology though.
"Its not your fault, stop apologizing" i sighed as i finally got my arms wrapped around him.
"I missed you.." he whispered and held me tight.
"I missed you too.. How has Clarines been with the news of Izona's marriage?" I asked as we slowly parted.
"Talkitive" he chuckled, "Theyre excited for him to become king though" he told me as Obi suddenly came running up to me.
"Y/n!.." he shouted before quickly pulling me away. I noticed Rue put his hand on his sword but I reassured him with a smile. "What the hell are you doing with that guy over there?!.." Obi whisper shouted and clearly pointed at Rue.
"Uh... Well, you're not gonna like it.." i muttered and looked over to Rue.
"Dont tell me he's your aid." Obi deadpanned.
"Weeeeeelllllllll-" i hummed and looked far away from him.
"Y/n! I'm so glad you're back!" Shirayuki shouted as she ran up and hugged me tight.
"Im glad to be back" i giggled and hugged her tight.
"Its nice to have you back home, Y/n" Kiki told me with her usual smile.
"Yeah but for the wrong reason" Mitsuhide sighed.
"I know" i giggled, "by the way Zen, writting me a note was totally messed up!" I yelled suddenly. He froze in place and tensed up while Mitsuhide said he knew Zen should have told me in person. "I was gonna cry anyway so you should have just told me at the village.." i grumbled and crossed my arms.
"I-I didnt know which was better! I just didnt want to see you worry the whole time we were there.." Zen explained to me.
"Y/n.." Obi suddenly muttered and took my arm. "Why is he your aid?.." Obi whispersd and looked back at Rue. He must remember him somehow.
"He's not bad" i whispered back, "before yesterday he wouldn't even look me in the eyes." I explained quietly.
"Uh oh, looks like Obi has so new competition" Mitsuhide chuckled and looked at Rue.
"The king said i had to have an aid because i was out in town later than I should have been" i sighed and didnt tell the whole truth.
"Mhm.." Obi hummed in disbelief.
"This is Rue. Before now he was Dominic's old aid so im trying to get him used to things but before yesterday's he wouldn't even look in my eyes" i explained to everyone as i introduced Rue. He didnt look like he knew what to do in this situation.
"Really? That reminds me of someone" Zen chuckled and looked to me.
"Nice to meet you all" Rue bowed to everyone, "the princess talks about you all frequently, its a pleasure to meet you" Rue totally just embarrassed me..
"You talk about us?" Kiki grinned.
"Really?" Shirayuki asked with a big smile.
"Well, it was supposed to be between me and him.." i glared at Rue but he wasn't looking in my eyes anymore. Maybe being here has got him trying to act his best so he's going back to his old ways.
"Its nice to know someone's with Y/n in Tanbarun. She'll never admit to it but she gets lonely easliy" Zen spoke to Rue like he would with anyone else.
"Yes, highness. I havent left her side since the day we were introduced" Rue said quickly and acted all solider like again.
"Pfft-.." Mitsuhide laughed.
"I dont know why you're laughing, Mitsuhide" Zen turned around and gave him a little glare.
"Wha-" Mitsuhide began with a big frown.
"Pffft-" Obi began next.
"Anyway Rue, we're glad to have you around. Now why don't we go inside? Its freezing out here" Zen asked quickly and did look pretty cold.
"Yes please" i laughed and followed the others to the nearest entrance.
"Y/n, I cant believe it's been so long since you were last here!" Shirayuki exclaimed to me.
"I know, I've missed this place a lot" i sighed as i took off my cloak once we got inside.
"Yeah, why did you make me come back again?" Obi glared daggers at me.
"Because you were a wreak without Shirayuki and you can't deny it. Rue doesn't have someone like that so this arrangement isn't much of a problem" i explained as i held onto my cloak tightly in my arms.
"N-No i wasnt!" Obi shouted in his defense.
"You totally were.." Mitsuhide muttered and tried to hold back a laugh.
"I remember Y/n telling us a story how you cried to shirayuki's grandmother-" Kiki began but Obi stopped her.
"Okay, okay!.." he shouted in embarrassment.
"Rue, youre a man of few words, aren't you?" Zen asked Rue and looked back to him. Rue is following us far from behind and looks spaced out.
"Yes, highness" he answered quickly.
"He'll talk if you talk to him otherwise he keeps to himself" i giggled to Zen.
"I see, just like you were before you got your voice back anyway" Zen chuckled as we all walked to his office.
"Yeah" I giggled before remembering something. "Oh, I brought my letters for December but theres only a few" i said as i took them out from my cloak.
"I received the others just yesterday too" he smiled as he took my little stack.
"I haven't gotten yours yet, I left on the 4th" i sighed.
"Then you'll have those and more once you get back" he smiled as he went to his desk, put down my letters then took out a small stack of his own.
"Princess, shall I got find the things you bought from town a couple weeks ago?" Rue asked as i set down my cloak at the windowsill and took the letters from Zen.
"As long as you don't stay out in the cold for too long" i replied with a little smile. He nodded and bowed before taking his leave.
"What an uptight guy.." Obi muttered in anger after Rue left.
"Dont be mad youre not the only one now" i giggled as i finally took my normal seat back at Zen's windowsill. I've missed this.
"It almost feels like things have gone back to normal besides your dress" Shirayuki sighed smiling.
"Maybe I should wear my old uniform. I could probably get away from meeting people if I wear it" i giggled and thought back to that uniform.
"Its still here" Kiki told me as she went to the cabinet where supplies were stored and my folded uniform.
"Oh my gosh.." i whispered in pure joy as i picked it up. I missed this so much.
"If you put it on, you'd match us again" Mitsuhide said and pointed to their fancy uniforms too.
"Can i?" I asked Zen with a growing smile.
"I dont see why not" he chuckled, "Shirayuki, can you help her?" Zen asked.
"Lets hurry before Rue catches you!" She giggled and took my hand then ran with me right out of Zen's office. We ran to the nearest empty room then locked it. I chamged as quickly as I could while talking to shirayuki about what came to mind. My uniform fit but it was tight around my chest. Maybe I went up a side or two?..
"Oh my gosh.. Im pretty sure you didnt look this good before" Shirayuki muttered in shock once she saw.
"R-Really? It still looks good?" I asked nervously.
"Dare I say, you might even look hot" she joked while i blushed bright red.
"Oh gosh.." i whispered and hugged myself.
"Lets go show Zen!" She shouted excitedly as she took my old dress and dragged me out back to Zen's office. "We're coming in!" Shirayuki shouted before oepning the door and pulled me in with here.
"Wow, Y/n. Looks like you've grown into it well" kiki said with a surprised look. Obi was stunned and didnt know what to think, Mitsuhide wasn't even looking at me amd Zen's face is a brighter red than I had ever seen. He looks like hes panicking.
"I-It doesn't fit anymore. Youll have to change back.." Zen said quickly and looked away from me. He looks so cute like this.
"I think I look good" i grinned and was just trying to tease Zen.
"Theres no way I'll let anyone see you like that, Y/n." Obi muttered and was fuming with rage.
"Please excuse me" Rue suddnely knocked at the door. Before he walked in, Zen took my cloak and wrapped it around me then held me from behind.
"Zen.." i blushed and turned my head a bit.
"Shirayuki, please go take her to change into something more comfortable. Something of yours, please" Zen said and was being so protective of me. He doesnt want anyone to see me looking like this because my clothes have gotten tight. Mitsuhide didnt even dare to look at me and Obi was so mad that I looked this way im front of Zen. This is almost funny.
"I think I can help her out, come with me, Y/n" kiki said with a little grin as she and shirayuki took my hands and walked me out right past Rue.
As soon as the door shut, shirayuki immediately started giggling.
"Did you see the look on Zen's face?!" She whisper shouted.
"I cant believe i made him look that way.." i muttered to myself and wrapped up tightly.
"You must've known he'd react that way though" Kiki said as she lead us to her room.
"I-I had no idea.. So he liked it?.." i asked with a little smile.
"He loved it! He didn't want Rue or anyone else to see you looking like this!" Shirayuki exclained quietly to me.
"He hasn't stopped talking about you all week by the way" Kiki sighed as we entered her room.
"And he was so sad like a love sick puppy because your meeting was put on hold" Shirayuki added.
"I was too.. And i told Rue about all of us so he kind of understands things but im worried he won't be very open while he's here. In tanbarun I got him to open up a little when we were alone but it was hard" I sighed as Kiki handed me a dress with long sleeves.
"How so? You said he was Dominic's aid last time right? So is he bad?..." shirayuki asked in quiet confusion while I changed.
"No, he's like me but worse" I sighed, "he won't look in anyone's eyes cause he's afraid he'll be physically hurt. Everything regarding Dominic ended in pain and Rue was probably his outlet to let out anger.. I feel bad for him. Hes like a little puppy" I told the girls as I finished changing.
"Is this too tight?.." Kiki asked with a tilted head and lightly pulled at the fabric over my chest.
"Uh.. No, I think it'll be fine" i shrugged and let Zen's watch hang over the fabric of my dress.
"You still have his watch.." shirayuki muttered in awe as we went back out.
"And the hair decorations hes given me." i smiled and let them see.
"Well, hes never taken off that ring or your necklace. He can't wear the necklace but its always on him everywhere he goes" Kiki chucked.
"Im glad" i smiled as i knocked on the door before opening it. "Zen, we're back" i said with a bigger smile as we all walked in.
"..Kiki.." Zen muttered and looked a little mad.
"She doesn't fit in any of my clothes anymore" she shrugged.
"Shirayuki.." Zen glared her next.
"She won't fit in mime either, shes as skinny as a twig but bigger in certain areas" she shrugged grinning.
Zen sighed and pintched the bridge of his nose. "Sorry.." I laughed awkwardly and felt embarrassed.
"Princess, I brought what you asked for" Rue said from next to Zen's desk.
"Oh, thank you" i smiled as i went back to the windowsill where he had set everything down.
"What all did you get? Rue wouldn't tell us" Mitsuhide asked as i picked up Obi's gift.
"I found somethings in town as a gift for the holidays. I know its a bit early but you can look now if you'd like" I said as i placed the wrapped package in Obi's hands.
"What? Really?" Obi asked in shock and was already pulling off the bow.
"Yep, i don't mind" i smiled as i gave shirayuki and kiki their gifts. Then i gave Mitsuhide his. His had a little note written in it that said, "Obi told me about your crush. He blushed a deep red and looked so embarrassed and like he wanted to talk to me about this but just couldn't because Kiki was here so he kept to himself.
"Zen, its finally done!" i said as i picked up Zen's sword wrapped in a towel.
"When did you finish it?.." he asked as he removed the towel to reveal a perfectly built sword. Its shiny, elegant, badass, and fit for a king. Not to mention the frozen flower. I took out my sword and touched our hands together.
"November. We also have matching flowers" i smiled watching the little blue flowers shine.
"Its amazing.. Thank you, Y/n.." he said and looked so entramced by the sword.
"Im glad you like it" i smiled.
"Mine looks better.." Obi muttered.
"Uh, well I actually didn't make those. I bought them in town then carved your name and sharpened them" i explained which made Mitsuhide laugh.
"She worked far past her time limit on those throwing knives" Rue said which should not have been said-
"What?" Zen asked with narrowed eyes.
"I-I just lost track of time! I swear!" I shouted and held up my hands in defense.
"How mamy times have you lost track of time?" Zen asked with a mean glare and leaned closer.
"O-Only once! It won't happen again!" I promised and took a step back.
"I hope not- ach!-" he suddenly shouted.
"You cut yourself.." i muttered as i looked at the cut on his hand.
"Oh! The chief has been waiting to see you again, Y/n. Now we have a excuse to go" Shirayuki smiled.
"Its only a little cut, I'm okay.." Zen sighed but worried me.
"But if we don't treat this now the sword goblins will come for you!" I shouted worriedly.
"Pffft-.." Rue cracked suddenly. That laugh was the first human thing anyone's seen him do till now.
"Fine ill go." Zen sighed, "but you have to walk me there" he took my hand with his unhurt one and dragged us right out of there.
"I knew there were paper people but I've never heard of sword gobblins" Mitsuhide chuckled as the others followed with us.
"Oh yes, I've even dealt with one" i said with a grin.
"Really?" Zen raised his eyebrow.
"Ask the chief if you dont believe me" i said happily.
"Alright I will" he grinned back.
"It feels like Y/n never felt right now" Shirayuki sighed happily.
"I still cant believe you left me behind" Obi grumbled.
"Stop pouting, its barely been two months" i rolled my eyes.
"Barely two months and you already have this guy!" He shouted and pointed to Rue.
"I warned you Rue, Obi is a mean one" i sighed before knocking on the chief's door.
"Enter!" She shouted before we walked in. "Princess! You're finally home!" Chief shouted and dropped everything she was doing. Ryuu even stopped too!
"I know, it feels like it's been years" i sighed to her.
"I hear that" she chuckled, "you're not here for an injury are you?" She asked and looked around.
"Actually, I accidentally cut my finger on my sword earlier but Y/n said we had to come down here anyway" Zen sighed and looked over to me.
"Oh, yes! You dont want sword goblins getting in your bloodstream do you?" Chief asked as we all walked in and took a seat. Zen instantly pouted once he heard what the chief said.
"Whatd I tell you about the goblins?" I asked Zen with a smirk.
"Did you tell her to say that?" Zen pouted and sat with me at the couch.
"Goblins are a real problem, prince Zen, if not treated quickly they'll invaid your blood stream and cut you from the inside!" The chief shouted while i nodded along.
"Alright I give in" Zen sighed as he let the chief fix him up.
"I believe we have a new guest today. Y/n, is he with you by chance?" The chief asked and pointed to Rue while Ryuu watched everything happen.
"Yes, the king forced me to have an aid after Obi left" i sighed in defeat.
"Why?" Ryuu asked in confusion.
"Because she was past her curfew arriving home from town." Rue explained for me but didnt tell them the whole truth like I did earlier.
"Is this true? He hired a babysitter?" Chief asked and tried to hold in her laugh while i glared.
"Funny.." i grumbled.
"Thats what you get for sending me away" Obi smirked.
"Yeah, well there's nothing we can do so Rue will probably stick around for a while" i sighed to them but smiled at Rue to reassure him.
"For how long?" Zen asked in wonder.
"Im not sure. I figured that once I'm here to stay, Rue will probably stay in tanbarun" i answered.
"So I can't go back anymore?.." Obi grumbled.
"Nope, youre stuck doing work here while you wait for my return" i grinned happily.
"Poor Obi has been so worried all this time" chief told me with a short laugh.
"No i wasn't!" He shouted in embarrassment while I quietly laughed.
"Princess, when do you think you'll be back to stay?" Ryuu asked quietly and stood next to the chief's side.
"Im not sure, we had to push back the marriage meeting a couple months.." i told him sighing.
"I heard about that but I dont understand why. You have a week or 2 till the wedding, cant you two have a little alone time till then?" The chief asked which made my face turn a bit red.
"Not offically. Im sure everyone knows Y/n is back by now so we have to be careful to not let anyone see us closely like that" Zen sighed and looked just as sad as me.
"I see.. Im sorry you two have to wait so long but the wedding will be soon after the meeting then right?" She continued.
"Maybe.." i muttered because we really don't know.
"Theres not a date set but I've been talking to my brother about it. We're planning on some time between the beginning of May and end of july" Zen answered quickly. My heart skipped a beat listening to that. Hes really been trying to get things moving between us. It's all in his hands, i cant do anything because it'll all planned here.. I cant believe im getting married soon!.. Im kind of nervous but happy.
"It seems like this is the first time the princess has heard that news" Ryuu pointed out.
"We're helping plan it too, dont you forget" shirayuki told me happily and put her hand on my shoulder.
"I wish i was here to help as well.." I told them and felt sad in a way but relieved. Im glad that in my stead, I have Zen and the others helping to plan this big wedding. I've never been to a royal wedding but I can only imagine how large it'll be.
"Well, we havent really started anything" Zen chuckled nervously.
"That is false" kiki shouted out while grinning.
"Zen's been working real hard but its too early to say if all his efforts will come true" Mitsuhide explained while a little blush spread across Zen's face.
"Im not worried" i smiled at Zen, "even if things don't go as planned or look as perfect as they do in your head, at least we'll still have a wedding" i told him happily. Even if we were all alone in an empty field for our wedding, I wouldn't care a bit.
"Wow.." Rue muttered suddenly, "It sounds like Prince Zen got lucky." He shouted out. My face burned bright red along with Zen's while Mitsuhide, Obi, Shirayuki, and Kiki burst out laughing.
"Yes, he sure did" the chief laughed. "You kids must have somewhere you want to be. I wont keep you any longer" she told us smiling as we stood up.
"Thank you for letting us stop by" i smiled to her.
"No worries, we wouldn't want goblins eating up the prince, now would we?" She giggled along with me.
"See you later!" Ryuu shouted just before we left.
"Rue, that was unexpected" Shirayuki laughed from next to Obi's side.
"I apologize for my rudeness" he said and stopped to bow.
"I wouldn't call that rude, maybe a little embarrassing is all.." Zen answered while glancing at me.
A big grin grew across my face, "You did get lucky didnt you?" I teased.
"Dont you start too" he sighed and started walking again.
"What?" I giggled following his side.
"Shes a wolf in sheeps clothing sometimes" Mitsuhide laughed.
"Yes, she is" Kiki agreed as i rolled my eyes.
"Y/n, you should see masters plans for the wedding! He was so derailed!" Obi shouted out which only embarrassed Zen a little more but he stayed quiet.
"I cant wait to hear it then.." I said softly as i took Zen's hand while we walked together.
"Maybe we should stay quiet or else other people might hear.." Shirayuki hinted at the maids and guards.
"O-Oh, I forgot!.." i whispered and tried to pull my hand away from Zen's but he held it tighter and didnt let go.
"Its okay.. Lets get back soon though" he smiled as we walked back to his office.
Once there, we all settled down a little. We were nearing dinner and someone had brought a bottle of liquor from the chief herbalist. Shirayuki immediately declined and i didn't want any either but Rue had some. I dont think hes ever had alcohol before.. And he uh.. Well he's definitely a light weight. He relaxed a lot more after a glass.
"So how is life being Y/n's aid vs Dominic's?" Obi asked Rue with a grin. Rue is a wobbling mess and I cant help but laugh at the poor guy.
"Sh-Shes amazing! She says she's my friend and treats me with respect unlike that bastard of a prince!" He shouted out curse words. I had to keep my hand over my mouth to stop my laughter but the others didn't think it was funny like me, they were confused that hes so opened now.
"He really let loose, huh?" Mitsuhide asked as everyone stared.
"Why do you think this is so funny?" Zen asked me with a little smile and raised eyebrow.
"H-He's such a dork.." i stuttered and was really trying hard to hold it in.
"He's a dirty, rotten bast-" Rue began to shout again but Obi slapped his mouth shut.
"Alright, so you dont like the guy" Obi said with a sigh.
"No i dont! Y/n is so gentle and caring! Shes playful but gets her work done when needed and makes time for herself to let loose!" He kept shouting. My face flushed red. How embarrassing..
"Oh?" Kiki tilted her head with a little grin.
"Careful Rue, youll make Zen jealous" Shirayuki warned with a giggle.
"I am not!" Zen shouted in embarrassment. He totally was.. hes so cute.
"I dont believe a woman like her should be tied down to other royals but she's so helplessly in love i almost laughed hearing her stories!" Rue shouted. My mouth dropped once I heard that. Okay, so im never telling him anything ever again. Nobody laughed and I was mad. I think i should teach him a little something about respect.
"Rue, pick up your sword and meet me outside. I think its time you learned what I can do." I grumbled and walked right out of the room without anyone following me. Hes in big trouble, im never letting him drink again.
I stood outside on the big sidewalk cleared of snow with my sword tight in my hand and a burning embarrassment keeping me warm.
"Uh oh.. i don't think ive ever seen her fight while being mad.." Mitsuhide said to the others as Rue unsheathed his sword and stood in front of me.
"Shes gonna hurt the poor guy by accident" Obi sighed, "Never fight her when she's angry" obi wanrned the others.
"Rue, I know I wanted you to loosen up but you are getting far too comfortable" I warned as I unsheathed my own sword and first saw my little frozen flower, reminding me of Zen. I need to keep my composure..
"Princess, I will lay down my sword to you and take your punishment head on" Rue said as he knelt down.
"No you will not!" I shouted suddenly, "get on your feet and raise your sword to me. Prove your capable of protecting me or I will send you back to tanbarun without another word." I commanded and was being as serious as possible. I've been meaning to test him, right now hes the most of focused on this task and won't hold back.
"As you wish, highness" he said as he stood up, held his sword to me, and looked me right in the eyes.
I went first, I gave an easy attack anyone could block. Then I went again and again and again. He didnt seem to be tiring out so I had to think of something. I took a step back and let him attack next. He fought quiet hard. Almost hard enough to beat me but i gave him the slip. I kicked his foot from under him which lead him to falling back but i caught him by the collar and held my sword against his throat.
"Next time you want to run your mouth i wont go so easy, Rue" i threatened as i helped him back up.
"Wow.. She was mad.." shirayuki muttered as i walked back to them.
"Nicely done, princess" Zen chuckled as i put my sword down. Im still embarrassed after what Rue said.
"He has no filter.." i muttered in embarrassing and couldnt look at Zen. "Rue, im not sending you back so stop pouting and come inside" i sighed as i watched Rue pout and stand in the snow.
"But princess, I lost.." he muttered.
"The rest of us lost too, dont take it personally" Mitsuhide laughed.
"I see.." Rue sighed and lowered his head as he walked back.
"Hes like a little baby" shirayuki giggled as everyone went back inside.
"Have you been training again after we left?" Zen asked as we walked back in his office.
"Not even a little" i laughed, "i guess my pride got the best of me" i told him as i sat down at the windowsill where he sat next to me.
"He'll remember what not to say next time now" Zen chuckled and accidentally rested his hand on the top of mine. He moved it in a hurry but then set it down again on top of mine. I'm glad he doesnt worry about us being close. Im glad he doesnt worry about touching me, its always okay.
"May, June, or July huh?.." i asked softly as i looked at our hands.
"Thats what I'm hoping for.." he sighed as our fingers locked together.
"We should hold it outside. It might be nice.." i suggested. I want to hold it in a big garden under the shade of trees.
"I was thinking the same thing" he smiled as i looked back to his eyes.
"Guys, I think Rue... Died?" Mitsuhide pointed. Rue is standing at ease but hes totally passed out.
"Hes not allowed to drink anymore" i sighed and shook my head.
"I should probably take him to the chief to make sure he's alright" shirayuki sugessted as everyone watched Rue.
"That might be a good idea. I dont want him waking up tomorrow without a memory of where he's at" i sighed and gave in.
"Ill take him there" Obi volunteered which is only going to lead to disaster im sure but ill let him anyway.
"You can go, Obi, but don't mess with him, okay?" I asked nicely.
"Lets go, new aid" Obi smirked before taking Rue by the collar and dragging him out.
"You think theyll be okay?.." Zen asked and seemed confused as to why I let Obi take Rue.
"Obi and Rue will have to learn to trust each other one way or another. Obi wont rest till he knows Rue has good intentions and Rue.. well, he's still learning how to deal with normal life" i explained in thought.
"Im sure theyll be just fine" Kiki said with a smile.
"Obi will surely have his fun with Rue while he's out. Poor kid" Mitsuhide sighed.
I picked up the letters Zen had given me ealier today. It looks like he got a new stamp too. Theres a sword and over it is a.. a flower..
"Its been 6 months since we've had you back, Y/n" shirayuki sighed as i set the letters down on my lap.
"I know, after I leave we'll have another 6 months too." I groaned.
"Youll probably come back a little early though for preparations" Zen smiled.
"Ah, thats true.. Speaking of which, when will you be picking out a dress?" Mitsuhides asked. My eyes widened a bit at that question. I totally forgot about the dress..
"I-I uh, i dont know yet" i stuttered and just realized how much work we have to put in to make this wedding. Since I won't be here it'll mostly be on Zen..
"Can we go dress shopping again while you're here?" Shirayuki begged and looked so excited.
"I-I cant go out in public though anymore" i stuttered in a slight panic. Id love to go shoping but i can't go out anymore. "And if people find out I'm looking for a dress then news will spread a-about a wedding-" i panicked.
"Dont worry, i can gather some dresses and have them come here but it may take a few days" kiki told me with a smile.
"O-Okay.." i nodded and felt sort of shocked. This is really happening.. we're really getting married..
"Y/n, did Obi tell you anything ealier?.." shirayuki asked rather shyly.
"No, like what?.." i asked with the tilt of my head.
"Well.." she hummed and looked bright red in the face. Something must have happened while I was gone! "He asked for my hand and now we're.." she trailed off. Goosebumps rose on my skin once I realized what this meant.
"What?! Thats amazing shirayuki!" I shouted as i stood up and ran to hug her. "Im so happy for you two! I knew leaving him here was a good idea" I sighed in relief and felt so happy. My best friend is engaged and will be getting married! I can't believe this!
"Maybe you can look for dresses together then" Mitsuhide suggested with a smile.
"O-Oh, no we won't be having a ceremony any time soon. We might not even have one. My parents didnt" she shrugged but was smiling so big. Of course she wants to do a ceremony but maybe they don't have money for one and won't ask for help. I really want to help!
"What if you had a cute wedding in the forest outside the castle? I'd love to help you" i asked with a big smile.
"R-Really?" She stuttered and looked like she could cry.
"What if you hold the ceremony at the house we met at? Or maybe back with the lions of the mountain?" I giggled when I thought of it.
"Oh, thats sounds nice" kiki said smiling.
"I agree. We'll help set up things when the time comes" Zen added as i let go of shirayuki with a smile.
"Thatd be really nice.." she muttered as she covered her eyes and tried not to cry. I cant believe they've come together like this.
"If you asked me when i was a kid that Obi would find someone he loved and asked her to marry him, id say you were dreaming" i said with a smile as i sat down next to Zen again.
"Obi has really grown up, huh?" Mitsuhide smiled and thought to himself.
"Unlike someone I know.." i muttered and looked away from him.
"H-Huh-?!" He stuttered with a bright blush.
"She's right, y'know" Zen narrowed his eyes at Mitsuhide.
"Come on?! You too?" Mitsuhide shouted in embarrassment.
"Kiki, have you ever thought of dating a solider before?" Shirayuki asked with a little grin all to tease Mitsuhide.
"Only if he could beat me in a fight" she said in return and tried not to react.
"Oh, I think i know just the guy actually. He's tall, has brown hair and eyes, is a little drunk right now-" i grinned and was talking about Rue.
"Princess, may i talk to you for a minute?" Mitsuhide asked normally but I knew what was coming.
"See you in a second.." i whispered to Zen woth a short giggle before walking outside with Mitsuhide.
"This charm and letter.. Why exactly did you give this to me?" Mitsuhide asked and held both in his palms as we walked down the hall.
"Someone told me you had a crush on kiki for a while. I dont know if that's still true though, i have been gone for a while" i answered quietly.
"Even so.. Kiki doesn't have those same feelings, a charm wont help that" he sighed to me. So he does still like her..
"Mitsuhide, do you remember that day at the market in town? You asked to hold Kiki's hand as a prank on Zen and i but kiki didn't think of it as a prank.." i explained slowly, "she was really hurt.. She only agreed to hold your hand because she wanted to.. not for some joke" i told him. Hes quiet as a mouse and looks at a loss. "You could have just asked to hold her hand normally if you wanted to do so. She probably would have denied but did it anyway" i said with a short laugh.
"Im afraid she doesn't feel the same anymore. She surely moved on-" he began but i stopped his pity party.
"To who? She only talks to you, Zen and Obi and the other two are taken. And she wouldn't get involved with anyone else because she doesn't like them. She likes you, Mitsuhide" i sighed. He looks so confused but happy.. "Do what the two of you normally do, just be yourself, thats all she wants. Go out alone with her more often doing whatever it is you do and ask to hold her hand just because" i told him. He looked at the charm in his hand before squeezing it tight and looking so determined.
"I will." He nodded happily.
"Good, now lets go back" i laughed and turned back around to Zen's office.
On our way back, we bumped into a woman in this really pretty dress. She looks like a noble or even a royal. She knew my name but I had no idea what hers was!
"Princess Y/n, I've been meaning to come find you" the woman stopped me. Mitsuhide stood a bit behind me while I talked but looked a little worried and stood at attention. This woman must be really important if he's acting like this..
"Hello miss, I'm afraid we haven't met yet" i smiled and tried to be polite. If Mitsuhide is acting like this than she must be important.
"No we haven't but I knew I'd see you around soon enough. My name is Isabelle Clement" she smiled and bowed to me.
"O-Oh!" I stuttered as soon as i realized who she was. This is Izona's bride! "I apologize for my rudeness, I had no idea. It's a pleasure to meet you" i bowed and felt so nervous now.
"Dont worry" she giggled. Wow, shes really nice... the exact opposite of izona.. "I stopped by prince Zen's office to find you but you weren't there. He and Izona have told me a lot about you" she smiled so kindly.
"I guess i did make quite the big scene while I was here, that was my fault" I sighed. Shes a noble woman but soon to be queen so she says our royal status but for some reason I feel like im a peasant!
"No, no, it sounded fun actually. I heard about how someone found you at the festival so long ago but prince Zen saved you. I dont know about you but id be pretty happy after that" she giggled. Gosh she so nice!..
"I was too" i chuckled, "congratulations on your wedding by the way. You must have went to the- oh! You were the one to dance with him!" I shouted as i kept remembering. She was the woman who danced with izona at the ball!
"Yes, that was me. You looked so beautiful in your dress by the way. Prince Zen looked so happy to be with you" she said as she gently took my hands.
"Thank you, I had a good time too although it was my fault the ball got cut short. I got caught again" i sighed but she looked happier and held my hands tighter.
"Well actually, thanks to you, I got to spend the whole night alone with izona. I've always wanted to thank you for that" she said happily. She's such a gorgeous woman and she's so nice. I bet Zen won't have a problem seeing her around here much and i definitely won't. "Oh! But I have to go now, theres still a lot to be done before the wedding and izona is about to have a fit" she giggled and let go of my hands.
"Please come and get me if you need any help! I'll be glad to stop by" i told her as she took a step past me.
"I might just take you up on that offer. See you later, princess!" She smiled and waved as we split ways.
Mitsuhide suddenly sighed and relaxed after Isabelle was gone. "That was horrifying.." he said and looked even a little scared.
"Isabelle? You thought that woman was scary?" I asked in confusion with a short laugh as we continued to Zen's office.
"That was the first time shes ever acted so nice.." he confessed and looked stressed.
"What?... So she- wait, I dont understand" i stopped in confusion.
"She been putting on an act in public and around prince izona but she's a mean woman.. Even Obi was scared of her.." hearing that really concerned me. Obi is a tough one to crack.. Ill have to ask him about it..
The rest of that afternoon ended slowly and I stayed with Zen as long as I could before someone showed me to my room for the night.
