十七 not so cold

Snow continued falling as you walked in silence.

Following close behind him.

When the noise of his footsteps stopped, you glanced up.

Your eyes widened. The surrounding area was beautiful.

You must have walked quite far, as you stood on a cliff high enough up so you could see the horizon over the ocean.

The sun was starting to set, and even through the flurries of snow you could see the orange hues in the sky reflecting onto the water.

Law finally spoke up, his usual stern tone,

"I am planning to take down someone powerful soon."

Huh?

You blinked a moment, turning to look at Law, who was standing looking out at the horizon.

"What?"

What on earth is he talking about?

Where the hell did that come from?

You were expecting him to yell at you, scold you.

For him to say he was leaving you there in the snow to freeze.

Not for him to speak so calmly about plans he probably hadn't even told his crew yet.

His gaze remained ahead as he spoke,

"You asked me what my problem was."

Oh?

He stated it like it was obvious, using the same tone as he continued,

"I have hardly slept because I am planning something that I've needed to do for a long time."

He paused again.

"Retribution."

You just stared at him, the snow continuing to fall around you.

"Revenge on someone?"

He just hummed in response.

There was another moment of silence before he spoke again,

"Shiina-ya, the truth is I am fearful for this."

You studied his expression, the way his steel eyes stared blankly ahead, almost as if he was avoiding looking at you.

Your lips parted to speak but he cut you off,

"Not just for it, but after."

Your brows furrowed.

"After?"

"I have other goals to fulfill. But this whole time my motivation- my purpose for everything was to avenge that person. Make Doflamingo pay for what he did."

Doflamingo?

I've heard that name before.

You stood in silence listening to his words.

He paused and then finally said,

"What will be my purpose after?"

You blinked a moment.

Purpose?

The question he had asked was something you asked yourself, and didn't know the answer to.

Especially now.

When you were growing up, your purpose was to make Shouga proud. To get strong, smart, for him.
