Tara's POV:

"hamein samajh nahi aa raha ki ham yahaan kyun hain," I muttered under my breath as I stood in the garden of the Shekhawat Palace where my mandap was set.

"hamein nahi karni ye shaadi" I whispered to myself as i stood there, my eyes scanning the faces for a familiar one. The air was thick with anticipation and the whispers of the people, but my mind was elsewhere.

And then I saw him.

Akshath Rao Singhania.

The king of Udaipur.

who will be my husband in few hours.

His piercing gaze met mine, and for a moment, time stood still, he approached me, a smirk played on his lips, "aap yahaan hai tara," he said in a low husky tone, "hamein laga aap iss shaadi se bhag jayengi"

I squared my shoulders, meeting his gaze, "ham nahi bhaagenge" I retorted.

"Achha?" Akshath chuckled, "Par aap bhool rahi hain, Tara, ki hamara rishta toh pehle se hi toot chuka hai. ye shadi karlene se kuch badal nahi jayega"

"Hum nahi bhoole akshath," I replied, topping my tears from flowing "Lekin rishte kabhi toot nahi sakte, woh sirf badal sakte hain."

"rishte toot'te hai tara, aur jab vo toot jaate hai na, unhe phir se jodna mushkil hota hai," Akshath's voice carried a hint of bitterness as he stood in front of me.

"Hum nahi mante," I shot back, "Rishte dil se judte hain, aur jab dil mei vishwas hai, toh kuch bhi mushkil nahi."

Akshath looked at me with a predatory gaze, "Toh aapka dil kya kehta hai? Ki hamara rishta phir se jud sakta hai?"

I took a deep breath, steeling myself  "Ji haan, Akshath."

"Aur agar humein aap pasand na ho?" Akshath's questioned as he stepped closer and i stepped back.

I stepped back with slight nervourness. "Toh humein kya farq padta hai? Rishta toh humein nibhana hoga, chahe aapko hum pasand ho ya na ho."

He didn't reply but kept coming forward, his eyes never leaving mine, a predatory gleam in his eyes. With each step he took forward, I instinctively moved backward, until I stumbled on something, my foot slipping on the edge of a stone and i felt myself falling in pond, With a gasp, my arms flailing as i tried to regain my balance, my bridal lehenga was heavy and cumbersome.

Just then, I felt a strong hand grasping mine, but it didn't pull me back. Instead, it held me in a firm grip, preventing me from falling further into the pond.

As I looked up, my eyes met Akshath's intense gaze. He stood there, his hand still firmly holding mine, we remained frozen in that moment, the water from the pond lapping at the edges of my bridal lehenga.

"Sambhal kar, Tara, you will fall," Akshath's voice rang out with a warning, his eyes locked onto mine, his hand still not pulling me back from the edge of the pond, "again"

"Ham sambhal lenge," I replied, "aap kuch aisa kijiyega hi mat ki ham gir jaaye, dobara."

Akshath's thumb caressing the back of my hand unconsciously, "Aur agar hum khud sambhal na sake toh?" Akshath's spoke looking deep in my eyes.

"ham bhi kuch aisa nhi krenge," I whispered, "Aapko girne nahi denge, chahe kuch bhi ho jaye."

His grip tightened slightly, his eyes searching mine as if looking for something. "aur tara," he murmured, "agar hum khudko sambhaal na sake, toh aapke sath gir jaenge."

I felt his strong pull, and before I could react, I was inches away from him. My hands instinctively landed on his chest, feeling the warmth of his body through the fabric of his sherwani. His hands, firm and possessive, rested on my bare waist.
