Chapter 5: Cooking Challenge?

Menchi introduced herself as a Gourmet Hunter. There was silence. Until everyone burst out laughing. "A Gourmet Hunter?! That must be some type of joke!!", some random person from the crowd shouted out.

"What are you talking about?!", Menchi cried angrily, "Being able to make gourmet dishes takes skill!" She sighed. "As your first task, you need to successfully cook pork; catch it and cook it yourself." Everyone gasped.

"You want us to risk our lives...over cooked pork?!", someone yelled.

"Yes.", she replied bluntly, "You need to retrieve the Great Stamp pigs for this dish." Everyone sighed in defeat and decided to get the job done.

"Where the heck are we gonna find these huge pigs anyway?", Leorio groaned. You rolled your eyes and said,

"Maybe where there's a pig herd of the them? Cause' I don't know?!" After (y/n) and Leorio's constant arguing, you managed to find a group of pigs. Menchi was right. This was hard. You all tried everything, but the pigs were just too stubborn. One pig did bonk into a tree, and an apple fell which landed on the head of the pig. The pig squealed and trembled.

"That's it!", Gon said, "Their head is their weak spot!" After that, everyone captured at least one pig.

Everyone of the exam takers were simply cooking their pigs over a fire. Now was the time for the judges to taste it! Dish after dish Menchi criticized most people's dish over how simple it was, until it was you and Kurapika's turn. Kurapika's dish was a sandwich-like dish with pork in the middle, only using pork instead of bread. Menchi seemed surprised and tasted it. "You call that a dish?! It tastes too bland!", Menchi exclaimed. Kurapika was shocked, with his face in disbelief.

"B-but...", he stuttered.

"NO!", Menchi said, "YOU FAILED TOO!" You could not help but laugh.

"Gomen'nasai Kurapika!", you apologized, "But you should have seen the look on your face!" He gave you a small glare, but chuckled in response. Finally, it was (y/n)'s turn to present her dish to Menchi. Your dish was perfectly cut into fine slices along with some veggies on the side and seasoning. Menchi seemed impressed, but what if she reacts the same as she did with Kurapika's dish?

"Hmm...", Menchi said, "It seems like you put much work into it.....but how does it taste?" Menchi took a bite. At first she expressed a neutral face, but then you saw some sort of impressed glint in her eye. "This actually tastes pretty good!", Menchi exclaimed, "Congrats! You passed!" Your face was filled with joy.

"Wow! I didn't know you were so good at cooking!!", Gon complimented.

"For the rest of you!", Menchi shouted, "You all failed!! So you might as well give up. It's over!" She was angry. Later, she got a notification that the exam takers got a different assignment "Ugh! Since most of you failed, your new assignment is to go retrieve Spider Eagle eggs in Mt. Split-in-Half." You frowned.

"So basically I made the dish and passed for nothing?!", you asked.

"No", Menchi replied, "It's not required for you since you passed...I guess you can watch?"

"That's good", you said in relief.

In the end, everyone collected an egg(accept for the people who fell to their death).

After a long ride on an airship, you all arrived to the Trick Tower, known for carrying prisoners there. Kurapika had a lot on his mind. Should he tell (y/n) about what really happened in her past? Maybe now is the time...

"(Y/n)....", Kurapika said while letting his bangs slightly cover his eyes, "I have to tell you something...."
