I'm lying in bed with American Idiot blaring into my ears when I feel my phone vibrate. Much to my surprise, it's not Luke, but in fact an unknown number.

From: Unknown hi, this is Michael. x

Wait, how'd he get my number?

To: Unknown oh hey Michael, how'd you get my number? x
From: Unknown Luke gave it to me. I saw him after school and I asked him for it. x
To: Unknown that was so brave of you! So how are you? x

There's no reply for about a minute, so, sighing, I place the phone back on the bed beside me and lean back as Boulevard of Broken Dreams plays.

I barely get 5 minutes peace though, before I hear;

"ALEX! LUKE'S HERE!" My mum calls up the stairs. Not caring about my appearance because it's just Luke, I swing my legs off the edge of my bed and hop lightly downstairs.

"LUKEEEEE!" I yell, jumping on top of him. When he doesn't start hysterically laughing as he normally does, I look down at him with confusion clearly written all over my face like a tattoo.

"Uh Alex, I think you should sit down for a minute. There's something you need to know." My mum says, placing a hand on my shoulder and gently pushing me on the couch next to Luke.

"Alex, Luke's mum was in a bad collision this morning involving a large truck and she's currently in intensive at a local hospital. Luke only found out when he got home from school. They- they don't know if she's going to make it." at this point, Luke totally loses his composure and starts sobbing with his head in his hands. I rub small circles on his back, not wanting to be more comforting than this when my Mum is sitting right across from us, her hawks eyes locked on me. I'm not allowed to date until I'm older, and Luke and I's close bond often makes her question whether we're just friends or more.

"We're gonna go up to my room for a bit. Bye Mum!" I gush, grabbing Luke's hand from his face and pulling him upstairs.
