T H I R T Y  T W O

    8:45 AM.

Setting my phone down for the billionth time, I looked around the street to see if I could spot Evan's Jeep, but just like two minutes ago, there was no sign of it or him.

My leg bounced against the concrete as I attempted calling him again, but the line kept ringing.

What the hell was taking him so long?

I was trying to stay calm, but that was hard to do when my stress levels were already high, to begin with.

Today the whole fostering journey with Maia will finally end after almost two years of court hearings, social worker visitations, and parenting classes. In less than two hours, an adoption hearing will be held through a video call to finalize the adoption, and I honestly couldn't wait even though I was nervous about it.

On top of that exciting yet stressful moment in my life, later in the evening, Cara and my father will finally be getting married. It will be a small wedding in their backyard with friends and family, but I was a tad stress due to being in charge of almost everything. The perks of being the maid of honor.

My phone vibrated in my hand.

Expecting it to be Evan, I took a quick look at my phone. It was actually Eddie responding to a text I sent him a couple of minutes ago.

Ranger Boy

I do not know where he is. Everything was fine when we left work. The only thing was that Maddie's boss got ran over last night, and we responded to the call, but I assume he told you that already. I also don't see how that would affect him or his whereabouts

I'll keep you posted if I hear from him

Yeah, he did tell me. Thanks

"What are you still doing here?"

Glancing over my shoulder, I noticed Theo standing behind the bench I was sitting on. Sighing, I shrugged. "My ride is nowhere to be found."

"Isn't your daughter's adoption hearing in like an hour?" He queried, looking at his watch. My anxiety was being pushed slightly over the edge at the reminder. "I'll give you a ride. Come on." He added, taking my bag from the bench, not giving me a chance even to utter a protest.

I wanted to wait for Evan, but at this point, I didn't have any other option. I couldn't be late to Maia's adoption after fighting for this moment for months. It would show a lack of interest and responsibility on my part to a judge I've never met in my life.
