As Blaire packed up her stuff from the final class, Adverb had come up to her desk without her seeing. It had been a while since the incident so the two had not talked at all. Adverb, busy with his popular school life and his girlfriend, was too preoccupied to even talk to the quiet girl. He'd always kept her in the back of his mind, wondering what the mixed feelings he felt meant. Meanwhile, Blaire was developing new friendships and building on old ones, not needing a boy like Adverb anymore. But she couldn't deny she saw Adverb in a good light.
The moment Blaire got up, she saw the face that haunted her dreams. He was there, in his glorious black shirt, looking so hesitant. It wasn't an expression Blaire had ever seen on him before. Brittany was not in their class to stop them, and Nico had already left to pick up his brothers. So it was then that the two would encounter after many weeks of living and despairing.
"Hey," Adverb greeted quietly, forcing out a smile on his face. Blaire looked him in the eye, skeptical and afraid, knowing that if they were spotted, rumours would arise again. The weeks of gossip were torture for the girl; Adverb had made her life so terrible without even realizing it.
Noticing that Blaire would not respond, Adverb sighed. "I'm sorry."
Blaire raised a brow, unsure of where Adverb was trying to go with this pathetic apology. He didn't even know what he was apologizing for, so it was pretty useless. Even so, the teenage boy continued to sputter out words he did not even process.
"I really didn't mean to make your life harder, especially 'cause of Brittany. I tried to talk to her about it, but she didn't listen..."
"Brittany is a bully," Blaire stated suddenly. "Why are you dating her?"
Adverb fidgeted with one of Blaire's pencils, her belongings still scattered across the table. If he were honest, he did not really know. He loved her, right? Because she loved him? Adverb was so dumb that he did not realize how bad his reasons were for dating.
Seeing that Adverb was speechless, Blaire quickly shoved the last of her supplies away, snatching the heart-patterned pencil from the sad boy's hands. "Goodbye," she said, and walked away, albeit angrily. Poor Adverb could only watch as the girl he (did not?) love went far, far away again, out of his reach. Too bad he was an idiot and could not sort out his feelings.
Blaire and Georgie decided to get ice cream after school at the nice park nearby. There was a cute ice cream stall that sold a delicious variety of flavours, so the two had loved the place since they were sixth graders. While Blaire got an oreo nice cream, Georgie decided to try spicy wasabi flavour.
"OMIGOSH, THIS IS SO SPICY!!!!" Georgie screamed, and thankfully no one was nearby to witness her cringe. "I CAN'T BELEAF ICE CREAM COULD BE SPICY!!"
"Haha, that's what you get," Blaire laughed a bit too harshly, taking a lick of her sweet treat. Suddenly, Georgie pounced on the girl and stole her ice cream! Then she gobbled it up in one go, leaving nothing but the crumbs of a cone in Georgie's guilty hands.
"MY NICE CREAM!" Blaire screeched, clutching Georgie's hands in hers with the strength of superman. Her tears flowed down relentlessly over the small cone she'd just lost.
Georgie had cackled and skipped along. She had given the wasabi cone to Blaire, but it was so disgusting that Blaire threw it across the field. She lay on the grass like a five-year-old and cried.
"Why're you so emotional today?" Georgie said, crouching down to Blaire's side. "Boy problems again?"
"Yes."
"Ayo? What's goin' on?!"
"Boohoo."
"You are so boring. Tell me please??"
"Boohoohoo."
"I see how it is."
Georgie stuck her tongue out at the sobbing girl and walked away. Blaire didn't get up. A few moments later, she came back with a new, large ice cream cone with three scoops of Oreo ice creams. Her wallet was now empty, but she needed to get Blaire on her feet because as much as she loved teasing her friend, she hated seeing her cry.
"Here, take the ice cream and get up," Georgie demanded, pulling Blaire's arm super hard that it'd probably fall off. Thankfully, the ice cream was enough motivation to get the dumb girl standing. Blaire scarfed down the ice cream like a dog and boohooed some more. Georgie grumbled something about "no thank-yous?" and dragged her best friend along the road, back home where she could boohoo however much she wanted.
When the two arrived at Blaire's house, they were greeted by Blaire's younger brother, Blaise. He had a weird strawberry-looking haircut with hair sticking up on top. Holding a gaming console, it was obvious that they had just interrupted his gaming time. His eyes stayed bored but seemed a bit angry.
"What's wrong with her?" Blaise asked Georgie, who shook her head. No one knew what was up with the crazy loser.
"K.O!!!" The console blared out and Blaise sighed. Unfortunately, he had lost the game and now had to spend in-game money to fix his dead character so he was pretty annoyed. So the boy got up and stomped away to his room cause he was a hermit that didn't like staying out.
"Hahahahahaha what a loser," Blaire laughed randomly and Georgie knew something was wrong with the girl. With dubious concern, the wavy-haired girl dragged Blaire from her arm into the large room she resided in. Shortly after, she closed the door, then sat down on the floor with a serious look on her face.
Blaire's room was quite plain. She had white furniture, her bed decorated with pale blue bed sheets, a cream-coloured wall, and little to no personal decor. To be honest, Blaire was a pretty boring person in general, which was why Blaire's crazy woman behaviour and insane mood swings were one to be concerned about. Georgie, for one, had seen her best friend break down many times but felt like it was becoming too much.
"Blaire," Georgie said, staring into Blaire's hazy eyes, "I need you to tell me wassup."
With a frown, Blaire replied, "What do you mean? Nothing's up."
"You started wailing like a three-year-old at the park and didn't stop. I'm kinda worried about your mental wellbeing, girl."
"Um."
Blaire couldn't conjure up a response. She was simply stuck in her thoughts, swimming around and around and around, thoughts of Adverb's confrontation and Nico's winter formal proposal (as friends of course - they couldn't be more than that), and she wasn't really present though Georgie was talking right in front of her. Actually, that reminded her- the winter formal was this Friday. She would have to pick out her outfit and maybe she'd wear red because that was-
"BLAIRE!!!" Georgie yelled right next to the girl's ear, who finally snapped out of her thoughts. Her eardrums were pounding in her head, and she was pretty sure Georgie had destroyed half of her ear cells. Cupping her ears, Blaire made a grim face.
Georgie then put her hands on Blaire's shoulders. For a long time, they stared at each other, emotionless. Then, out of the blue, Georgie shook her best friend's shoulders as violently as she could, jostling Blaire's brain and probably giving her brain damage. Great, now Blaire had two injured body parts.
"You better snap out of this," Georgie growled menacingly, "Or else I WILL beat you up. I don't know what's going in on that tiny brain of yours but it's nothing relevant. We WILL get through the year and we WILL NOT think about stupid Adverb and his gang. HE IS A STUPID LOSER."
Blaire was almost about to defend Adverb for not being a stupid loser, but in fact, he kind of was.
With a reluctant smile, Blaire brushed the hands of her friend off her shaken shoulders. She knew Georgie just wanted the best for her, even though she inflicted some unfortunate injuries. She had to stay strong for her best friend, who had been there for her all this time. They were sappy besties!
Noticing Blaire's change of attitude, Georgie smirked in approval. "You better do your best."
The two girls then chilled in the funny Blaire's room the rest of the day, bonding as normal. In a world full of rumours, mean girls, silly crushes, and scammer schools, at least they had each other.
