The chocolate was drugged. Katherine did not know what it was drugged with, just that it was definitely, undoubtedly drugged.
It must not have knocked them out immediately, though, considering where they were right now. There was the possibility that Syme had dragged them here, but Katherine sincerely doubted that pedantic little worm had the physical prowess to accomplish such a feat. Did she mention that they were drugged?
Everything seemed a bit hazy, just a little too dizzying to be normal. There wasn't much that Katherine could figure out at the moment with her brain seemingly checked out. The chocolate still lingered in her mouth, but with a bit of an aftertaste. It was a shade of bitter that she shouldn't have dismissed as part of the often faulty chocolate rations. Dammit. Now Syme could do whatever he wanted without having to worry about either her or Winston resisting.
She was broken out of her panic by a slap to the face.
