A/N: kinda sad, not really, idk😭😭
The Stark twins. Giz and Remi. It's always Giz and Remi. You can't have one without the other. In every reality, they are always together. Maybe not always as sisters but as best friends.
Giz and Remi. In every reality.
Or maybe not all.
Stephen Strange was never one to go to Avenger parties or get-togethers. If one wanted to see him, they'd have to go searching for him. Mostly always, he was at the Sanctum Sanctorum.
Giz and Remi got sort of close to him after saving the universe together. So every once in a while, on a pretty Wednesday evening, the Stark twins visited Stephen, only to gossip with him.
They liked to catch him up on all the Avenger drama — how Clint owes Bruce over a thousand dollars for an experiment he messed up, what Natasha said to Thor to make him upset, what Tony and Steve were arguing about recently. Everything.
The conversations were never serious, it was always about the latest news, but tonight was different.
The Stark twins sat across from Stephen in a rounded table, cup of hot chocolate in front of all of them. Stephen took a sip from his own mug before unleashing the conversation starter.
"Remind me how you got your powers again? Mutation? Contact with a stone?" he questioned. He had been through so much in the past years, Stephen simply didn't have time to keep up with everyone's back story.
"Contact with a stone," Remi answered, looking down at their almost-empty cup. They swished the liquid awkwardly as they had a quick thought back to the HYDRA base.
Stephen nodded, placing his mug down on the table. The thing about silence in the Sanctum Sanctorum: it was always the loud. Everything echoed — the fire crackling, the mugs on the tables, Remi's nervous finger cracking.
"We were taken by HYDRA," Giz continued before Stephen could ask for more context. "Strucker used us, blah, blah, blah."
Stephen closed his eyes and nodded momentarily before opening them again. "Right, I remember now." He thought for a moment. "You had each other in there. Remember that, even when you're adults and create your own separate lives. Remember you once relied on each other to survive."
Giz was sat back, manspreading a bit as her right leg bounced up and down anxiously. She hadn't really touched her hot chocolate, not a big fan. She slid it over to Remi as she spoke. "I think we'll always rely on each other in a way," she mumbled.
Full from their own serving, Remi slid the cup back to Giz. "There's not a universe where we don't, I think," they added.
The twins turned to look each other for a second. They then turned back to Stephen. "Well, I don't think..." He trailed off, unsure if to finish his sentence. He cleared his throat and began reaching for their cups. "Thanks for coming over—"
"No, wait, backtrack," Remi stopped him, placing their hand flat on the table, reaching out to Stephen. "You were gonna say something."
Giz watched him carefully, her eyes squinted and calculating. Stephen shook his head and waved it off. He sat back again. "Just a thought, doesn't matter."
"If it doesn't matter, then say it," Giz insisted, crossing her arms, prepared to be offended by whatever a man had to say.
"That maybe you guys aren't together in every universe," he finally told them. The twins stared at him, curious and thoughtful. Stephen continued. "It shouldn't affect you two, it's just something that came to mi—"
