{A/N} I'm so sorry for how long it's been!!!!!!!!!!! like months, im so sorry. ive been busy and ive recently been dealing with some stuff and im so so sorry. But this chapter is just a flashback :)
Dani's POV
"Hey!" Gunner said, wrapping his arm around Dani's shoulder and kissing her cheek. Gunner and Dani had been dating for two weeks and Dani already hated it. She liked Gunner just fine, but not in that way.
"Hi." She smiled, kissing him on the lips.
"Get a room." One of Gunner's friends- Mason?- smirked, taking a drink from his red solo cup.
Dani hated parties, but Melise had dragged her along, so she had called Gunner.
"Hey, Gunner!" Melise slurred, swinging herself onto his lap, giggling childishly.
"Hey, Mel." Gunner said, sliding her off of him gently.
"How are you and Dani? She won't talk about you with me." Melise said, glaring at Dani with a joking grin.
"Really?" Gunner teased, winking at Dani. "She must not want to be with me." He joked.
Dani laughed, her cheeks flushing. If only he knew.
"Melise is just nosy." She said, shooting a pointed look in her best friend's direction.
"Well, excuse me for wanting to know how your relationship is!" Melise screeched, suddenly angry.
"Whoa... Calm down, Mel." Gunner said.
"I'm goin' to get another drink." Melise slurred, stumbling out of the room.
"What was that about?" Gunner asked Dani.
"No idea." Dani took a drink of her drink- just orange juice.
"Okay." Gunner sighed, pulling her closer.
"So, wanna dance?" Dani asked, uncomfortable sitting on the lumpy couch of some frat house in Phili.
"Yeah!" Gunner grinned and pulled her up.
They danced to the jumpy-hip-hop-typical-party music before a slow song came on and Gunner grabbed Dani by the hips, and Dani placed her hands gently on Gunner's shoulders.
She felt like crying every time she looked at Gunner. He looked at her like she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen, but she saw him as nothing more than a friend. She bit her lip and looked over his shoulder to avoid his gaze. And there, leaning against a wall, was a very drunk Melise.
Dani saw her chance.
"I should go talk to Melise... at least see if she's okay."
"Alright." Gunner nodded and Dani quickly ran through clusters of people to reach Melise.
"Hey." She said when she finally reached her best friend.
"Hey." Melise shouted, the song changing into an extremely loud hip hop song.
"Let's go talk." Dani shouted back, slipping her hand around Melise's waist to help support her.
Dani led Melise upstairs into one of the many bedrooms. There was a bathroom attached, and Dani decided that in case Melise threw up, this would be the best place for them to talk.
"What's up with you and your obsession with Gunner and me? It's weird."
"I just don't think that you two should be dating." Melise answered, placing a hand on Dani's.
They were sitting on the floor, Dani was running her hands through the carpeting.
"You were the one who begged him to ask me out, remember?" Dani said, raising her eyebrows.
Melise downed her drink and stared at Dani.
"Yeah, but I had no idea I'd be this jealous."
"What are you jealous about? Am I spending too much time with Gunner or something?"
"No, Dani. I'm jealous that he gets to kiss you and touch you and, and love you." Melise answered, leaning and pressing her lips against Dani's.
The kiss was sloppy and drunk and it tasted like stale beer, but Dani couldn't get enough. Melise was kissing her.
But she was drunk.
So Dani pulled away.
"Mel..."
"Don't pretend you don't have feelings for me, Dani. I know you do. I know it because I've known you since we were three and I see you jump every time I touch your leg. I see these little signs and you know you have some sort of romantic feeling for me. Don't hide it."
"Melise, I can't. I want to so badly, but I can't."
"Why not?" Melise sounded hurt, and Dani felt a pang in her stomach.
"Because I-I'm with Gunner and my mom would kill me."
"It's not a choice, Dani. It's not like you can either choose to be with Gunner or you can choose to be with me. It's not even about Gunner and me, it's about the fact that you can't choose to be with a guy or a girl. You'll never be able to BE with a guy. You'll never give your heart and soul to a guy and you'll never be able to give him your body. This is who you are, it's you, it's in your blood."
Dani felt a tear slide down her cheek.
"Okay." She whispered, and before Melise could open her mouth to speak, Dani's lips were on her's.

Five minutes later they heard a knock on the door and they both scrambled up. Dani glanced at her reflection in the mirror and her cheeks flushed. She looked like she had just made out with someone.
Melise opened the door and Dani heard Gunner's voice.
"Hey, Melise. Is Dani in there?" At the sound of Gunner's voice, Dani's heart softened. She may not think of him romantically but the guy was super sweet and caring. A good friend.
"Nope. She left a couple of minutes ago to go find you." Melise lied.
Dani started to sweat, but she kept silent.
"Oh okay. Text me if you see her."
"Yeah." Melise said, smiling and then shutting the door.
"I feel so bad lying to him." Dani said, looking at Melise.
"You shouldn't. You're not the one lying to him."
"Still."
"Okay, well you won't feel bad after a little giggle juice," Melise winked. "Whaddya say? I'm empty." She held up her cup.
"I don't drink, Mel. You know that."
"Riiiiiight. I just thought maybe you'd stop being such a bore once you realized that you're in love with me."
"I'm not, I mean I don't think that we-"
"Relax, it was a joke."
Dani stood up, annoyed by Melise. But she reminded herself that Melise was drunk and didn't really have control over what she said.
"C'mon, let's go downstairs." Dani said, holding out her hand to help Melise up.
"I don't need your help." She slurred, taking a minute to stand up. "See?"
"Whatever." Dani said, more annoyed.
"You know, I'm sure Gunner will break up with you soon anyways."
"Why's that?" Dani asked, suddenly defensive.
"Cause you're such a fucking bore! I mean seriously! We're at a college party with free booze! And you're such an alcohol prude it's ridiculous. Live a little."
Dani opened the bathroom door and walked out, leaving Melise. Her best friend may have been drunk but her words still hurt. And Dani couldn't excuse her behavior because she knew that it was what Melise really thought.
She looked back and saw Melise trying to keep up, but stumbling, and Dani only walked faster.
She ran down the stairs and into the hallway, trying to find the door. She was lost in a sea of people and she started to panic. Breathing heavily, she ran into the kitchen, and bumped into Gunner.
"Hey!" He said, putting his hands on her shoulder to steady her.
"Sorry!" She panted. Gunner smiled at her, and out of the corner of her eye she saw Melise looking for her, and then stop in her tracks when she saw Gunner touching Dani. Dani felt hot anger boil in her stomach at Melise's words, and without thinking she leaned up and pressed her lips hard against Gunner's. She could feel his shock turn into pleasure, and he linked his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. Like Dani, Gunner didn't drink. He said he preferred to live life sober, and Dani appreciated him never trying to pressure her. But his lips didn't feel like Melise's did, and his hands felt wrong against her.
Gunner was the first to pull back. "Whoa..."
"What?" Melise's voice interrupted. "Surprised at what a little slut your girlfriend can be?"
Dani's mouth fell open and Gunner's eyes became hard and cold.
"What did you just say about my girlfriend?"
"You might want to accompany her to the bathroom next time she needs to go. You never know what she's really doing." Melise smirked and walked between them, pushing Dani a little.
"Dani, what was she..." Dani's face burned with rage.
"I don't know," she whispered hoarsely. "She's drunk."
