Then I Wonder Who?

Among us are humans

Flesh, blood, breakable bones

We are as fragile as we think- but

We don't think enough

And there are those among us

Human and similar

Yet not the same

Who's sadness is a weight in their chest

A chest so full that it can no longer bear the weight alone

However, it remains within

For this burden cannot be borne by another

It's not from empty bed sheets

Or an empty heart that is held

Or the suffering that unfolds from

Loves of past desires

Or the searching of someone or something

It's not in shrieks of pain at night

Begging for the dreams to stop

Or in the quivering of a broken heart

As the tears speak for themselves

If it's not in you or me

Or in the neighbor, you see every morning

Bags under her eyes as she restlessly gets her mail

Then I wonder who
