Past: Mrs. Walker begs Mr. Porter becomes Bryce's advisor, and he accepts. In addition to counseling, Porter gives Bryce a journal in which he can write down all his thoughts. Bryce thinks his mom hates him. When Mrs. Walker learns this, acknowledges that it is not the case, and that he blames himself for the mistakes he made when Bryce was younger. Bryce tells him. Porter still has thoughts of rape. Mister. Porter suggests asking for help elsewhere.
Present: The police ask Mr. Porter to help with the investigation. Mister. Porter asks Tyler, Zach, Alex, Cyrus, Justin and Jessica to siphon Clay about various incidents, but they refuse to do so. Years reveal that Mr. Porter privately counseled Bryce. Mister. Porter meets Clay outside the school, where he tells her that he is not trying to criminalize Clay and that he only spoke to students he knew would defend Clay. Mister. Porter tells Clay that something may have happened to Tyler, and he reveals Montgomery's sexual assault on him. Following a tip from Montgomery, Clay discovers among Justin's belongings an oxycodone vial, released with a prescription for Bryce.
