I planned to complete Volya's story with Book 3 of the Walkwe, The Dissident Alpha, in 2023.
Volya kept growing up and my books tried to catch up to him.
I wanted to see him creating and leading his pack, fighting against a new, predictable opponent. You don't think Mnemosyne's research had just disappeared, right? The 2022 tragedy unfolding in Ukraine is already dystopian with lots of villains on the Russian side to chose from, like the oligarchs and the corrupt military, police and government. The nightmare became a reality.
But then I started The Tetrachromat, and the more I worked on it, also with Russian leads, the more I understood that the storyline I had in mind for Volya simply doesn't make sense for his character. He would do something different.
Until he tells me what he has in mind, my hands are tied.
