"Mom!" Raven yells and I look over at her "what's up babe?" I ask putting my brush down "can I go over to Willows?" She asks and I smile "yeah dinner is at 5" I say and she smiles Raven was 10 and her best friend lives next door so I didn't have an issue having her go over

I text Willows mom who says that it's ok if Raven went over, I go back to painting when I hear a bang "Robin!" I yell calling for the 8 year old "I didn't do it!" He yells and I hear a different bang "fuck" Ken says and I groan putting my paint brush back down and walking out of my studio

Robin, Nix and Ken all stand in the living room all surrounding a box "what is going on?" I ask and Ken smiles at me "it is our wedding anniversary gift from me to you" he says and I raise my eyebrow, it's been so long since we've been married the man was reaching 57 and I 41, he still tries to keep our spark alive by doing shit like this

"And what is it?" I ask and Nix smiles "it's not your anniversary yet so you can't see" he tells me the 16 year old having my attitude, I look at my watch and see we have five hours till I can open it "fine just be less noise I'm trying to get this painting done" I say and the boys smile "yes mom" Robin says pushes the box

"I want you to open the gift infront of the kids" Ken says appearing in the doorway of the studio I look at him and smile "ok" I say and he comes over and gets down on his knees infront of me "I love you" he tells me and I peck his lips "I love you more" I tell him "the boys are making us a cake" he tells me and I smile running my hand through his brown and sliver hair "ok" I say and pecks my lips once more

"Dad!" Nix yells and Ken rolls his eyes "cockblocker" he says getting up and walking out I roll my eyes

"Being married is hard I don't know how you've done it for so long" Elaine says and she takes a bite of the cake the boys made "I agree you two are my idols" Dorian says and I smile feeling Kens hand on my thigh, he and I got married when Nix was 2 so it was been a long time

"Well Ken is keeping something from me" I say and he narrows his eyes at me "it's a gift you can have it after we eat" I hear a bang and Ken looks at Robin who eyes him "who said we are doing it tonight?" She asks "I did and don't kick me" he says and Raven just smiles "Raven" I look at her as I say her name and she looks at me "sorry dad"

"Here you go" Ken says handing me a knife and I smile looking at the box, it was about the size of the kitchen island and had the thickness of it also "if something jumps out at me I'm stabbing" I tell Ken who just smiles "just open it!" Elaine says and I smile at her and cut the tape

Inside lays a big canvas with our family portrait on it, I smile and look at Ken he knew I wanted to paint one but didn't have the time "who did this?" I ask "a friend" he says and I hug him and peck his lips "now where am I going to hang it?" I ask and he laughs "didn't think that far in" he tells me

"Happy anniversary mom and dad" Nix says and I smile knowing he would much rather be in his room playing the guitar "you kids are the best" I say "what about me mom!" Elaine says and I look at her and smile "come here" I say and she smiles hopping up and hugs us "I love you all" Ken says and I smile

I never expected for my life to turn out this way, I was a graphic designer for my own business and I helped coach the girls soccer team at the school Ken teaches at, he stopped coaching when Nix started to play, "I love you to dad" Dorian says and Ken rolls his eyes

I lay in bed that night flipping through channels when Ken comes in "I got you something else" he says holding a candle and I smile as he hands it to me, I smell it since it smells apples "your gift is under the bed" I say and he raises his eyebrow "ok?" He asks getting down "a canvas?" He asks and I nod "open it" I say and he does

It was a painting of his mom with angel wings wrapped around the kids he covers his mouth "where am I going to put this?" He asks and I smile as tears come down his face "we will make room" I say and he comes up and hugs me

"I got you something else" I say and lean over and grab the bag "it's 100 pairs of socks wrapped individually" I say and he looks at me with furrowed eyebrows "all of them have a face on them" I add and he rolls his eyes wiping a tear away "thank you Rena" he says and pecks my lips

"I'm going to go put this downstairs I don't want my mom in here while we have sex" he says and I laugh watching as he walks out of the bedroom
