Chapter 3

Huo YanXiao hadn't planned on going downstairs, but Nie AnAn had just interrupted his work and mentioned food. He actually felt a little hungry after she left. He was never in the habit of snacking after dinner, so he just planned on getting himself a glass of water. It so happened that the water machine upstairs was out of water, so he went downstairs for the other one.

Once he walked down the stairs, he immediately smelled the aroma of delectable food. It wasn't the usual pungent smell of Nie AnAn's instant noodles, but something that smelled closer to dishes made by a top notched executive chef. He felt a bit suspicious, so he took a few steps toward the dining room after he got his water.

Nie AnAn had her back to him and had no idea that he was looking at her. From what he could see, she was sitting there enjoying her dinner elegantly as the aroma of her food filled every cell in his nose. So she went out earlier and brought food home?

Huo YanXiao turned expressionless and went back upstairs without saying anything. Except that, after he went back to his study and sat back down, he seemed to still be able to smell the food. Even after he had his entire glass of water, he still felt hungry! Huo YanXiao pressed his temples a bit and forced himself to refocus back on his documents.

Downstairs, Nie AnAn had a good meal, picked up her dishes, did some simple exercise to help with digestion, and went back to her bedroom. It had been a long day for her. She fell asleep quickly after she collapsed on the bed.

In the middle of the night, Huo YanXiao finally left his study, took a quick shower, and read some news on his phone as he waited for his hair to dry. The ads on the news were based on his usual interest. As he scrolled down the screen, he noticed one of the ads. It was probably an ad for some brand of salad dressings, but the food in the pictures looked very sumptuous and he couldn't help but salivate.

Then, he remembered the food that Nie AnAn was eating earlier. He was already heading downstairs before he noticed what he was doing. He walked all the way into the kitchen and opened up the refrigerator. The few dishes that Nie AnAn was eating out of earlier were still in the refrigerator. In addition, there were also vegetables, fruits, and meats.

Huo YanXiao was a little stunned, and he noticed the condiments placed on the top of the kitchen counter. They were arranged in order of height, from high to low, like grade school kids standing in a line. His irises darkened. He pulled out all three dishes and placed them into the microwave one by one. Soon, they were all heated up, and their aroma filled the air.

He picked up his chopstick and tried a prawn first. Its taste exploded in his mouth: smooth, crunchy, and tender all at the same time. Huo YanXiao was truly surprised. Then, with the mentality of sampling the food, he tried the other two dishes. They didn't taste any worse than food from a Michelin-rated restaurant. Huo YanXiao scooped himself a bowl of rice. It was already cold, but perfect after he added in the boiling winter melon soup. Sitting in front of the dining table, he elegantly wiped out all the food.

Nie AnAn woke up at 6:30 am the next morning. She went to the kitchen after she had finished washing up. It looked like someone had touched the items in the kitchen. The order of the bottles had been rearranged. She frowned slightly and rearranged them the back to her preference before she opened up the refrigerator.

Nie AnAn was a bit surprised when she noticed that her three plates of food from the night before had vanished. But, she figured it out right away. Huo YanXiao must have gotten hungry after he worked till the wee hours of the night and ate them all. Thinking about that, she lifted her head and looked toward upstairs. She had noticed that Huo YanXiao's room door was still closed when she woke up. He must still be in bed, meaning that he'd probably need some breakfast after he got up.
