Chapter 30

It was time for dinner. Everyone sat down, and Grandpa Kim took the main chair. The rest of the family waited for her to pick up his chopsticks and start eating first before they followed suit.

The Kim family wasn't an old-fashioned family that confined its members to proper etiquette and mannerisms.

Grandpa Kim was someone who appeared serious when in actuality, he was rather bold and unrestrained. However, since he possessed an overwhelming temperament, he usually gave others the impression that he was a distant Woman.

Father Kim sat with a straight posture and seemed like he had a very calm and steady personality, but the occasional smiles that he revealed were exceptionally kind. Towards Mother Kim, his smiles were even more gentle.

Mother Kim had a constant smile plastered on her face, and it made her look very loving. However, her every move exuded elegance and grace. At times, the expression in her eyes would flash with menace, reminding her onlookers that she was not to be underestimated.

Brother Tae was very reserved. Grandpa Kim's solemnity and Father Kim's steadiness could both be found on his handsome face.

It must be mentioned that all of the Kim family members possessed top-notch looks that simply couldn't be rivaled.

And last but not least, there was Jennie. Out of the entire family, she was the most apathetic one. Her every move oozed alienation, though, at home, this sense of alienation was almost imperceptible.

After dinner, Jennie spoke up, "Brother, let's have a talk."

Without hesitant, Taehyung nodded. He also had something he wanted to talk to her about.

The two siblings made their way to her study; although they had both married and moved out already, their own original bedrooms and studies were still kept the same as before.

Once they were alone, Taehyung asked her, "Lil' sis, are you and Lisa... serious?"

The siblings had an age gap of four years between them, and back when Jennie was still just a baby, Taehyung had already grown into a sensible little boy.

Ever since they were children, he had showered her with love and attention. As the matter of fact, he took more care of her than even their parents did. After they both grew up, he still tried to look out for her whenever he could.

The two siblings were very close, and as Jennie's older brother, Taehyung naturally knew what kind of person his little sister was.

Jennie understood what her brother was trying to ask. She had agreed to disclose her relationship with Lisa, which would most likely mean that she was serious about the relationship. She nodded without hesitation.

"Mhm. Lisa is very good to me."

Taehyung seemed a bit surprised by her response. For a moment, he stared at her with a deep gaze, and then he finally nodded.

"If that's the case, then you have to cherish her well. Here is a gift from your brother. If she bullies you in the future... you don't need to be polite."

Then, out of nowhere, he fished out a very fine pistol and handed it to her. Jennie raised an eyebrow, but she wordlessly took it and put it away. Of course, there was no way she was going to use it on Lisa.

For one, she didn't believe that she would ever bully her, and even if she did, she refused to do anything that would harm her.

She would never forget the love she'd shown her in her past life. She would always remember the promise she'd made to herself when she was lying helplessly on her hospital bed.

No matter what, she would do everything within her power to protect her, for the rest of her life.

"You wanted to tell me something?" Taehyung remembered that his sister also had something to say to her. He wondered what it was.

Jennie spoke bluntly, just as Taehyung had done when he asked about her and Lisa, "Nancy isn't a good Woman, and the Lee family is conspiring against us."

Immediately from the first part of her sentence, Taehyung had already decided to take his little sister's side over his wife's.

"Conspiring? What do they want?" He asked with slight disdain.

"No matter what it is that they want, I won't let them succeed!" Jennie made no secret of her murderous intent, which caused Taehyung to frown. He wasn't concerned about the Lee family, but his sister's attitude confused her.

"What did they do? Did they offend you?" His tone of voice turned fierce.

If the Lee family really had done something that made his little sister unhappy, then he wasn't going to let them get away with it.

Evidently, the good Big Brother Tae was completely wrapped around his sister's little finger.

It would be a bad idea for Jennie to try to explain what the Lee family had done in her past life, so she didn't. She gave tacit agreement to her brother's assumption instead.

"Brother, what should we do about Nancy?" Although she wanted to quickly get rid of the Lee family, Nancy was still a Kim family member and her big brother's wife—in name, at least.

Nonetheless, Jennie wanted to consider her brother's feelings first.

The coldness in Taehyung's eyes remained unchanged, and he responded bluntly, "We'll do whatever you'd like. If you don't want to dirty your hands, then tell me and I'll do it for you."

The traditional Kim family rule was the main reason he married Nancy, and he'd chose her because her appearance, temperament, and family background were all decent. Mother Kim's company and the Lee family also happened to be collaborating with each other.

Therefore, Taehyung hadn't put much thought into it and casually married Nancy. What he needed was a nominal wife, anyway, so it didn't matter who took the spot.

Before he got married, he had already told Nancy about the Kim family's traditional rule and how he felt about her. Despite all that, she'd still agreed to marry her, claiming that she loved him and didn't mind, which he had felt more or less satisfied about.

The Lee family also gained benefits from their marriage. Taehyung had thought that since he couldn't give Nancy love, the least he could do was make up for it by giving her a good lifestyle.

Friendship and righteousness were two things that he placed great emphasis on. Just as Jennie and Lisa had done, Taehyung and Nancy were married under a contract where both parties knew about the implications.

He hadn't expected the Lee family to start having designs. It seemed that he had been too kind to them.

Of course, he didn't doubt Jennie's words at all. The Kim family members were very protective of each other.

As Jennie's big brother, Taehyung would lash out even if the Lee family hadn't really done anything wrong. To her, just making his little sister unhappy was a grave sin, and from what she told her, the Lee family was actually conspiring against his whole family. He obviously wasn't going to spare the Lee's!

"Let's do it together. Brother, we haven't done anything together in a long time. Let's treat this as a game and see who plays it better."

The eagerness and enthusiasm were clear in her eyes, and the coldness in her voice was impossible to ignore. The same piercing coldness was also in Taehyung's voice as he agreed.

"Alright. Let's work together."

Meanwhile, the other members of the Kim family were chatting and drinking tea in the living room. Most of the conversation revolved around Lisa and her upcoming film. Mother Kim expressed her fervent support and high expectations for the film.

Nancy, who couldn't get a single word in, was sitting there with a gloomy look on her face.

Taehyung and Jennie entered the living room and took in the scene. The brother-and-sister pair wordlessly exchanged glances.
