At the age of 16, very single student in the UK takes a set of mandatory tests known as GCSEs (
General Certificate of Secondary Education
). These are the core subjects: Maths, Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), English along with the other subjects of the student's choice depending on what is offered by the source of education.
With Science you have different options again depending on what is offered to you by your source of education:
"One GCSE: Science (which includes elements of biology, chemistry, and physics) Often referred to as Core Science.
Two GCSEs: Science and Additional Science (a more academic course)
Two GCSEs: Science and Additional Applied Science (a more vocational course)
Two GCSEs: Double Award Applied Science (a very vocational course) (also known as Dual Award or Double Science)
Up to three GCSEs: Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate GCSEs (known as a Triple Award or Triple Science) " ~ Sourced from Wikipedia
I take triple science lol. and its the hardest. Some schools like mine only allow certain studnts to take triple science.
You can also do the same with English:
"
Two GCSEs: English Language and English Literature
One GCSE: English" ~ Again sourced from Wikipedia
In some schools, especially religious school, RE (Religious Education) is compulsory.
