My Little Girl

I woke up in an ambulance with my granddaughter next to me only to find her eyes closed and her ice cold hand hanging out from the gurney. I tried to get up to see if she was okay but the EMT's kept pushing me down telling me to relax and that everything was going to be okay. I was struggling to talk because the pain was too extravagant making me unable to move. I remember my legs being numb, I couldn't move my fingers, I was feeling completely paralyzed, my hearing was faint, and my vision was going blurry; then black.

I woke up again, but this time I was in a hospital bed. The first thing that came out of my mouth was, " Where's Crystal?"

The nurse told me that she was in room 101 and how she's been in a coma for the last three weeks, along with me, but I so happened to wake up before her.

Later that day I went to room 101 only to see a helpless little fifteen year old girl lying in bed with a small heartbeat. I slowly walked to her bedside, forming tears in my eyes, grabbed her hand, and whispered,

"It's not your fault."

I kissed her hand and slowly started walking out the room, but my heart sank as I heard the loud, flat, beep of when her heartbeat stopped.
