He smelled her before he saw her. It was a scent he had often dreamed of smelling again. Jasmine mixed with pine and wood smoke. He'd been walking into the office with his officers. His first appointment of the day was a Paige Wilson, a child of one of his pack members. She had apparently been living abroad since they had absorbed her family into the pack and hadn't been able to present herself.

He didn't understand how a wolf could live away from her pack for that long without going rouge but he also had more important things to think about and so put it out of his mind when he was first told about her.

He was so focused in his conversation with his beta that he hadn't even fully registered it was her scent until he turned the corner and saw her. She was staring at the painting on the wall and didn't turn when the walked in.

"Paige?" he said. Not daring to believe it was actually her. The Paige he knew was a human named Paige Robins. She turned and looked at him. His wolf, who had been more aware of her scent, jumped to the forefront of his mind at seeing her face.

"MATE!" He shouted in his head.

"Nathan?" She asked. The sound of her voice sent a thrill to his heart.

"What are you-?" He stared at her in disbelief. In awe that she was here and that she was his mate. The woman he had loved for six months, and had carried a torch for, for five years, was here, in his pack house. Her face, which had reflected his own disbelief, quickly turned angry and she shouted "You son of a bitch!"

He was so stunned by her reaction that when she closed the space between them and pulled her arm back to swing at him he didn't even have time to react. She hit him square in the jaw and screamed, "That's for Bali! You bastard!"

He reeled back from the hit as his beta and gamma rushed her. She kept trying to fight to get to him as the wolf she was with screamed at her to stop. He regained his balance and smiled to himself before looking back at her. "Still got one hell of a right hook I see." He touched his lips where her fist had made contact, it was the same place she had touched him the first time they met. She had punched him then too. He smiled at the memory.

"It's alright, you can let her go." He called to his officers.
"But sir, she attacked you!" His beta said.
"That's just how Paige says hello." He said looking at her. She had stopped struggling and was staring at him, seething with anger.
"I said let her go." His officers did as he commanded but still stood in front of him. Like they didn't trust her not to try to hit him again.
"Come on in Paige, let's talk."

"I have nothing to say to you." She spat. He started to say something but she turned on her heal and started walking to the exit. The wolf she was with, must have been her sister, ran after her.

"Paige, you're supposed to present yourself to the Alpha!"
"Consider myself presented!" She called over her shoulder and marched out the door. His wolf whimpered as he watched her leave. He didn't want to be separated from her so soon after finding her.

"It's okay boy" he thought at Malcom, "She
won't go far. We'll see her soon."

Her sister looked back at him with a look of horror and embarrassment on her face. "Alpha I am so sorry for her behavior, she's normally not like this. She's jet lagged and-" he held up a hand to stop her explanation.
"It's alright. Paige and I have a history." He said as he stared after her.
"You know that human, sir?" His beta, Patrick asked.
"I'm so sorry Alpha, I don't know-" her sister started again. He cut her off by asking her name. When she answered he asked her how he knew Paige. He already knew of course. This must be her younger sister Sophie. Their scents were similar being family but not quite familial as Paige was not a wolf.
