"Where are Quil and Embry? Did they tell you they were leaving for the day?" Bella asked, leaning onto the kitchen counter.

"I dunno. They didn't say they had any plans. Lemme call Embry." Jake reached into his back pocket and pulled his phone out, dialing Embry's number. It went straight to voicemail.

He continued, "voicemail. Might have gone for a run. I don't think they'll be back for a while. So what do you wanna do? We could—

Bella threw herself into his arms, a brief silence enveloping them.

—Whoa. Everything okay, honey?" He asked, gazing into her cherubic brown eyes.

"I wanted a hug." Bella lifted her hands, holding his face, palms snugly resting against the contour of his strong jaw. "I feel like we haven't been able to be close the last two days. Not without being watched, anyway."

"I'm not complaining." He murmured, melting into her touch. Jake looped her into a tight embrace, coiling his arms around her midsection. The longer they stared at each other, the air between them electrified. His brows furrowed, a deep seriousness taking hold of his expression.

"What's wrong?" She whispered.

"Nothing's wrong, Bells." He trailed off.

Their lips brushed once, twice, meshing together out of desperate need. With one hand, Jake cradled her jaw, tilting it to deepen their kiss. Its twin slid under the lacy hem of her tank top, caressing, exploring the soft skin of her lower back. Bella's delicate fingers wove through his flowing, onyx-hued hair, grounding her to his scalp; her hands crumpled into loose fists, losing herself in the moment. In this intimate act, Bella found solace and security. His hair became her anchor, locking her in the present, reminding her of their shared bond.

He broke the kiss first and drew back, painting smaller, more tender kisses over the bridge of her nose, trailing down her right cheek, and along her jawline. With a tactful approach, his tongue traced a semi-straight path down the slope of her neck, sending shivers down her spine.

"Jake," Bella huffed, losing herself to the pleasure of his touch, "more."

He squeezed her gently, nipping the sensitive spot just under her right ear, both of them mutually panting for air. "More?"

A sudden frustration overcame her, "don't tease me."

"Don't tease you, huh?" Jake repeated, a light gruffness filling his baritone voice.

His keen senses picked up on her cues, and he bit the same spot harder, momentarily losing a grip on his control. Her heart shot up into her mouth; the words she might have said died on her lips, replaced by a stifled gasp.

"Jacob," Bella mouthed, syllables muffled by ragged breaths.

"Bells," he replied, lifting her into his arms with a controlled flurry of movement.

Jake set her down on the countertop, parting her knees, forming perfectly to the empty space in between her thighs. His hands found separate homes on opposite sides of her hips; with her tank top riding up, he explored the stark curve of her bare waist. Bella pawed at his shirt collar and pressed her body up against his. The rough stubble peppering his face rubbed her skin pleasantly raw, a rosy glow appearing from her cheeks all the way to her collarbones on either side. Her calves locked around his waist, a stifled moan barely escaping her supple lips.
