"So Mommy's getting better?" Naim asks Jahir while I sit on Jahir's bed with him as he plays the game.
"Yea, you'll get to see her soon, hopefully." He mumbles the last part.
Naim just smiles ear to ear with two missing teeth. Just adorable. I'm so happy for them. I hope everything goes alright.
"Aye." Daddy knocks before coming in.
I freeze as he makes eye contact with me. I'm not really supposed to be on Jahir's bed with him. He knows we're friends but he is a lil... overprotective of me. Like 12 bodies over me protective.
"Interesting. But uh, Naim you wan go to the park with Mercedes and the boys?" He asks without taking his eyes off of me.
"Yea!" Naim hops up excitedly.
"They finna head out, better hurry Eem."
"Otay. Bye brother, bye Quay." He waves and I smile.
"Have fun." Eem gives his brother a hug before running out.
Soon as he leaves the energy shifts. My dad closes the door and stands still.
"So... what y'all be up to?" He smiles at Jahir.
Jahir gulps, turning his game off.
"Daddy leave the boy alone. We just hanging out. We're friends." I sigh.
"If you touch her, I'm cutting yo GODDAMN fingers off." He pulls his switchblade out making Jahir flinch but play it off.
"I won't D, trust me." Jahir nods.
"Mmmhm. We'll talk later Dequayva." He puts it away and looks at me in the most serious manner.
"Yes sir." I nod.
"And leave this damn door open." He opens it all the way before leaving.
We wait for him to go back downstairs and both release a deep breath.
"Damn he scare me." Jahir mumbles.
"He ain't gone hurt chu. My daddy been wrapped around my fingers since I was born, trust me." I roll my eyes.
