chapter twelve;
the truth comes out

Amaya woke up with a smile on her face. Her back was against James' chest, his face buried in her neck, as he breathed softly, and his arm was heavy around her waist, providing her with the feeling of safety. Her muscles were spent, her head light, and as she looked at her nightstand she let out a sigh when she noticed they didn't have a lot of time before James needed to get ready and head over to Auror Training.

He shushed her quietly, his hold tightening on her. "Go back to sleep, Maya."

Her lips twitched up and she turned over in his arms, making James groan as turned on his back and pulled her along so she was sprawled on his chest as he kept trying to sleep.

"I can't," she whispered, raising herself on her arm so she could look at him, shivering as his fingers softly brushed against the bare skin of her hip. "You'll have to go to the Ministry soon."

He shook his head, his eyes still closed, his fingers trailing her spine now. She rolled her eyes.

"James, you can't skip training. Moody will eat you alive."

"Don't care," he mumbled, his hand settling on her arse as a smirk grew on his face. "I'm not leaving this bed."

"Well, I am—"

"Nope," he nearly growled, his hand squeezing her arse, making Amaya bite her lip to prevent a moan. "You're staying right here with me."

She rolled her eyes, pulling away from him as she straddled his stomach, sweeping her hair to one shoulder before leaning down to kiss his neck as James' hands settled on her hips, his fingers gripping her skin tightly. She smiled against his skin—Amaya hadn't been this happy in a long time.

"If you want me to stay, you'll have to wake up, Jamie," she said,  her hands dragging down his chest and when she pulled away he was looking at her, his eyes darker than usual, desire painted in them.

"Fuck," he whispered, "You're the prettiest dream I've ever had."

She let out a laugh. "You couldn't even begin to dream me."

He nodded in agreement. "You're right. Nothing would live up to you."

She bit back a grin, shoving him in the shoulder. "You're an idiot."

"I—"

Knocking on the door had them freezing and James groaned in annoyance when Sirius's voice was heard through the door. "HURRY UP, PRONGS! Ninny made breakfast and I know you're starving after last night!"

Amaya's cheeks flushed, making James smile amusedly at her. Last night had been blissful, and Amaya forgot all the reasons she'd found not to give in to him. Why she ever pushed him away in the first place was a mystery. James' hand cupped her neck as he pulled her down to him, kissing her soundly, his soft lips moving against hers.
