As we sprinted through the corridors of our second-year dormitory, I glanced to my side and noticed Ichinose Honami, her strawberry-blonde hair trailing behind her as she struggled to keep pace with me.

Without hesitation, I reached out and grabbed her hand, hoisting her up in a bridal carry. A faint blush crept across her cheeks, but she remained silent as we accelerated, her surprise evident in her widened eyes.

Now, you might be wondering why we were running, and from whom.

A quick glance behind us revealed an endless horde of what they would call zombies in movies, but I preferred to think of them as the undead.

"Ayanokouji-kun, watch out!" Ichinose's urgent shout snapped me back to the present moment. With reflexes honed by necessity, I delivered a sharp kick behind me without even turning my head, much to Ichinose's astonishment.

As the undead closed in from all sides, escape seemed impossible. I knew I could handle them on my own and make a break for it, but with Ichinose by my side, that wasn't an option. Instead, the only way out was through the window, a risky move given we were on the third floor of the dormitory.

"Ichinose, quickly, hop on my back!" I urged, gently setting her down on the ground before offering her a piggyback ride. Without hesitation, she complied, her trust in me evident as she settled onto my back, ready for whatever came next.

With Ichinose securely on my back, I sprinted towards the window at breakneck speed, her worried expression not escaping my notice. Sensing her anxiety, I gave her thigh a reassuring pat, prompting a blush to spread across her cheeks, visible even in the chaos of the moment.

As I reached the window, i broke it with my sharp kick before looking back for the last time, zombies wasn't very far away they were closing.

"Here we go," I announced, feeling Ichinose tighten her grip around my neck as we leaped out of the window. But I wasn't about to make the mistake of plummeting straight down. Instead, I seized hold of the pole attached to the dormitory as we descended, initiating a controlled slide downwards.

As we descended, I couldn't help but notice the countless zombies tumbling down after us, their mutated bodies proving to be their only functional trait as they remained otherwise brain-dead.

"Their bodies may be mutated, but their minds are as empty as ever," I remarked, earning a light laugh from Ichinose as we reached the ground safely.

As we made our way towards our base, which Ryuuen had dubbed as such, I couldn't help but reflect on how we ended up in this dire situation. Carefully setting Ichinose down from her perch on my back, I noted the disappointment in her expression, clearly enjoying the piggyback ride.

"How did we end up in this mess?" I mused aloud, the gravity of our circumstances weighing heavily on my mind as we continued our journey.
