I got up as quickly as I could, but Haydn beat me to it. He grabbed my hand and he didn’t let go.
“Skye..” He said softly, “Look-“
“NO!” I yelled, “AND LET GO OF ME!!”
I tugged my arms, but he only tightened his grip.
“Please Skye, don’t make it hard for me.”
“THEN LEAVE ME ALONE!”
I punched his arm with my free hand. He twitched.
“Skye.” He said sternly.
“Let go, Let go, Let go!” I yelled as I continued hitting his arm with full force.
“I’m warning you.” He said.
I ignored him.
“Let go! Let go! Let go!!!!”
My hand was beginning to ache from hitting Haydn.
I looked up and was about to shoot him a death glare, when I saw something colder and darker in his eyes. It made me quiver in fear.
I yelped when picked me up off my feet and carried me on his right shoulder.
“PUT ME DOWN, NOW!!!!” I protested, but he only mumbled something dismissively.
He started walking.
“HAYDN!! PUT ME DOWN!” I thumped his back with my fists.
“Only if you won’t run away.” He said flatly.
“…..No.”
“Going once.” He said.
“….”
“Going twice”
“……”
“Going th-“
“OKAY OKAY!!!!” I surrendered.
He stopped dead on his track.
“Promise me?”
“YES. NOW PUT ME DOWN.”
He lifted me off his shoulder and put me back down.
I brushed my clothes before looking straight into his eyes.
“What do you want?”
---------------------------------
I sat on a wooden bench in a nearby park, licking my pistachio flavoured ice-cream with a frown on my face. Haydn sat down beside me, eating up his vanilla ice-cream happily.
“Doesn’t this remind you of the times where we were kids?” Haydn said.
“No.” I muttered.
“Aw, come on, don’t be such a frownie face” he said, giving me a playful pout
I grunted and continued licking the ice-cream cone.
It boggles my mind. It really does. I mean, how he can turn into a completely different person so quickly.
We sat on the bench for a while, Haydn pestering me to talk to him.
“Say anything. We had a deal.” He reminded me.
“I said I wouldn’t run away, I never said anything about talking.” I said, clearly annoyed.
“HAH! Made you say something.” He smiled in triumph.
I crossed my arms and frowned.
Dammit.
“Fine,” I said “I said something? SO. WHAT.”
“It means you were listening to me”
“Hmph.”
I gave him a sour look.
“Come on Skye, I’m really sorry for what I did. I really am. I was scared, and were six for Christ’s sake. SIX. What did you expect me to do?”
I looked away.
“Please, I’m sorry.. I didn’t know it would end like this.. really..” His voice trailed off into the far distance.
I said nothing.
“I’ve been looking for you all these years, and you refuse to talk to me because of something I did in the past. I’m truly, truly so-“
“Stop it Haydn” I said, voice quivering “ just.. just stop it.”
“Please Sk-“
“No,” I said, tears threatening to fall “I can’t. I won’t”
“Skye..”
“Oh shit..” I sniffed “ I’m late for school”
I stood up and wiped the tears off my face with my sleeve.
“Skye, pleas-“
He held my hand but I pulled away.
“Please. Just go back. It’s better this way. For both of us”
I sprinted towards the school, tears cascading down my cheek.
“Please don’t leave me..” I heard Haydns voice drowning in a sea of noises.
