Beyond The Needle

Frown

Society frowns on the one that looks apart,

Apart is one of the few words that's been used to define someone who's smart,

I'm not a genius, I'm barely above average intelligence, yet I still receive a frown,

Depending on who I talk to, I either have to sigh or dumb myself down,

~

Either people call me brilliant and expect me to be a genius - then of course must be disappointed,

When I tell them I can't cure cancer, nor can I find a treatment to the people who a double-jointed,

~

I pick up a book every now and then, and apparently that act makes me smart,

By that measurement, I then must also be smart if I pick up an orange and put it on my shopping cart,

~

I've gotten tired of people calling me something I am not, when in truth I got no academic crown,

And of course, when I tell them this, that's when I receive that judgmental socialistic frown.
