Hi guys this is chapter 1. So here’s the situation, this is a flashback 2 years ago when you know (if you read the prologue) where everything started. Since the story is entitled “The Story of Us” while is really the story of the main character and her ‘special someone’ as the years pass by.

PART 1

Chapter 1 Flashback and Echoes

Love is patient that no matter how long it will take for you to find it, love can wait. Love is like a spark that by the time you’ll feel it, triggers you and makes you go wild. Love is when you change for the better, gives you an optimistic way of facing the good day ahead of you. Love is like a rainbow that reaches down to a golden pot at its end and happiness is shared everywhere. When you feel love, butterflies in your stomach start to fly and your stomach starts to flip back and forth. But… honestly, I really don’t know what love is… maybe what I’ve just said is based on the books I’ve read and  the movies that I’ve watched.

Two years ago, as I’ve said earlier, this boy whom I never thought would change my life. I didn’t realize that I like him so much until I reached my senior year which was a year ago. It’s my first time to feel this way. I don’t know what it is, maybe just a huge crush on him, an admiration or even an infatuation. I deny calling it love. One of my friends told me that I am but I doubt that it is. And for being me, Iris Hathaway an ordinary girl with an ordinary life but has extraordinary friends has fallen for this guy called Drake Finlay.

I wonder where he is now, what he is doing, what college he is now, his life, his family. Drake might be a jerk at times and a bully to me most of the times but there’s one thing that makes him special to me.

Junior Year

Introducing your name to the whole class, that’s what I hate the most. C’mon it’s pretty obvious that I have stage fright right? My knees start to feel like jelly and I can’t stand it. Like, everybody stares at you, give you suspicious looks and I feel like I committed murder. Ahw. Yay my life. Ms. Evans, our homeroom teacher let us do this ‘stuff’ introducing thing. I mean most of us knew each other’s name but she said she doesn’t know us so mind as well introduce ourselves to her. I couldn’t complain, it’s really compulsory.

I started to make a doodle at the back of my notebook while waiting for my turn and getting off the nausea I’m feeling. My pen starts to shake as Anne (the person sitting next to me) started introducing herself.

“I’m Anne Flynn call me Anne.” She laughed and tapped the edge of my shoulder signalling it was my turn to speak up.

My. Turn. I stood slowly from my seat and looked at the wall instead of looking to my classmates. Finally I opened my mouth to say something. “Hi… uhm, I’m….” c’mon, c’mon. “I’mIrisHathawayyoucancallmeIris.” I said. Ms. Evans gave me the ‘stare’ and said, “Can you repeat what you just said dear?”

“Hi.” I sighed. “I’m Iris Hathaway, you can call me Iris.” I gulped and noticed some of my classmates laughed as I sat down to my seat.

“Ohhh like the Goo Goo Dolls.” I heard one of my classmates said. Yeah I know, I know the famous song Iris.

I glanced at the back to see whose turn it is.

Drake.

“I’m Drake Finlay.” He said giving a half smile to the class and Ms. Evans.

I felt nothing. Well at some point there is. I was so shocked that I’m classmates with him especially during homeroom! Like whaaat??

My seat is way too far from him. I was seated at the first row, third column while Drake’s sitting on the seventh column fourth row. I wasn’t close to most of the people in my class. I only have my best friend, Kate. Kate and I have known each other since freshman and we’ve become the best of friends. Still, I’m so lucky that we’ve been classmates for three years straight. Though some of our classes differ, most of them, me and Kate have the same subject and class schedule.

~*~*~*~*~*~

A few months after, our class started to be closer than before. It was really fun having to know them as your classmates. Everybody’s so nice and talks to you like a normal person. Well I’m not saying that we’re not normal but it’s really rare that the whole class will be close to each other like brothers and sisters.

I got close to Anne, my seatmate. She is really funny and her chestnut hair flows nearly to her elbow length. Anne’s sense of humour didn’t go away. That’s one thing I like about her aside from the trustworthiness I have for her.

“Iris, this is going to be fun!!” Anne giggled as she showed me something through her phone. “There’s a party on Friday night at Jay’s house! Jay invited everyone here, please come Iris pretty please?” she gave a puppy look to me and I gave a small smile.

Her expression lit up and said, “Is that a yes?”  she paused. “Okay, I’ll take that as a yes.”

“Anne, I’m not sure about it. I still have to ask my mum and Kate about this you know.” I shrugged. “But don’t worry; I’ll try my best to be a good girl.” I gave her a suspicious look as I continued copying the notes written on the board.

“Fine.”

“But Kate will go you know!!” she exclaimed.

“Obviously.”

“So you’ll come? Oh yeah your mum still. Darn you’re 16 Iris you can go I’m sure you did nothing bad to them. You’re always a good girl…. Unless…” she paused.

“Unless what?” I narrowed my eyes to her.

She came nearer to my ears and whispered, “Unless you sneak out from your house every night and went somewhere.”

“I did not.” I said firmly.

“Okay, as you said so.” She winked.

We continued to do our work. After ten minutes, Ms. Evans called our attention.

“Class, listen up.” She said as she pushed back her glasses to her blue eyes. I really like Ms. Evans’ beauty. A blond girl in her mid-twenties and her piercing blue eyes can catch an attention whoever guy will look at her. But I doubt my guy classmates will drool over her. It’s illegal remember? “I’ll have to rearrange your sitting plan.”

What? What? What? No way!

“Noooo. Wayyyy..” Some of my classmates stuttered.

“Yes way.” Ms. Evans said calmly.

I started to look at Anne and gave her a disappointed look.

“I wanna stay here.” She said.

“Me too.” I said. “If ever Miss will transfer me to another seat, I hope it’ll be a girl or it’s okay if my seat’s near a boy but someone who isn’t annoying and asks me answers during tests.”

Anne laughed as Ms. Evans called her. “Yes Ms Evans?”

“Exchange seats with Fred and you,” as she emphasized my name “Ms. Hathaway exchange seats with Matt.” She said as she pointed Matt’s seat on the sixth column fourth row. My jaw slightly dropped as soon as I saw who my seatmate is.

Drake freaking Finlay.

Yay me. This can’t be happening. Too much of unexpected things you know.
