Truth Hits Hard

Headed off to war, a man and his sword

Staring past the sea of faces

His wife, proud of her man, yet worried

She plans letters to send

Engrossed in battle, the man grows sore,

Tired, dirty, stranded and poor

Then all alone he weeps

At fallen comrades’ feet

His wife at home, spends all night on the phone

She gets a letter in the mail one day,

Telling a tale no one would ever want to hear

“Lie to me,” she begged, but too late it is

Instead, the truth hit home,

The truth hits hard

Because of truth, one more is dead
