9) Losing & Finding

"Tell me about yourself"

He raised an eyebrow with shock in his eyes then smiled, "sorry, but I don't have a selfish sister to ruin my life"

I shrugged, "But you must have something"

"I am an orphan," he said looking through the window.

My eyes widened, "y... you are!"

"Yes but don't worry, it doesn't affect me"

I frowned, "how could it not affect you?"

"I never met them"

My frown turned into a speechless face when he saw it, he smiled, "don't turn speechless, it's fine"

"No, it isn't," I paused and considered, "tell me about it"

He stayed silent for a while, looking through the window, I think that he was trying to remember or maybe... Trying to forget.

"I lived in an orphanage for a while since I was born until I reached ten then I was told that a man wanted to adopt me, Mr. Reeve. I lived with him until he died then, I stayed a while in London searching for a job when I failed, I came here"

"Sorry for your loss," I said with a shaken voice.

He nodded and gave me a sad smile

"I have never experienced it before," I found myself saying.

He looked at me questionably.

"Death, I mean," I explained, "As you see, my parents are alive and so is my sister. My grandparents died before I was born and I have no friends except for Mrs. Walsh and thankfully, she is alive. I have never met death but I think that I will meet him soon and once I do, he won't leave me until he has taken everything away"

Silence dominated between us until he decided to break it with a very strange question,

"How about ruining their romance?"

I looked at Dr Reeve and smiled, "what?"

He smirked, "You broke me from Miss Harris, now, let's break them apart"

I raised an eyebrow, "You are going to take your revenge on them?"

He shrugged, "Why not?"

I chuckled, "It looks like I am doing nothing but breaking people apart"

He shook his head while smiling, "That's not true. Though we have been speaking for weeks, I think that today, we have seen new sides of each other"

I smiled, "Breaking people and starting friendships, the perfect way to live"

He stopped at his track, "Did you just say friendship?"

"I don't have a better name for it, can you think of a better name?"

I regretted my last question as soon as it came out of my mouth especially when he came close to me and said, "I can think of another name"

I swallowed hard and stepped away, "well, I can't so let's just go with friendship"

He didn't move away but took a step forward, "Did you say that you are happy with me?"

"Yeah, I am happy talking to you," I paused waiting for him to continue but since the silence became strange I continued, "Shall we?"

He smiled then made a 'you go first' gesture saying, "After you"

"Well, Thank you," I said while curtsying.

We made our way through until we reached them then Dr Reeve said, "Edward, where have you been?"

Edward glared at Charles until he saw me then he gave me a wide smile, "I finally saw you again, Miss Abbot"
