I seriously thought that the world was ending me horribly. It would shatter my life, rupture my soul, and scorch my very being from history.
Why? Because Katherine completely rejected me. AGAIN. That makes two.
And we all know three strikes and you're out.
How? Well it went a bit like this:
"Hey, Kat." I said, waving hello.
"Woah, James, you startled me." she said.
"I have to tell you something."
"I have to ask you something."
"Alright, you go first." I said.
"Why are you here, in front of my dorm?"
"So I can tell you something important."
"But I've gotta go. Can we do this sometime else?"
"Not really. It's that important."
"James, I have to go."
"It'll only take a second..."
"Goodbye, James." she said, walking away. I held my head down in failure. I picked up a quarter off the ground that someone apparently dropped and I started to flip it. Just so I can pass the time.
"I'll be right here, Katherine. Waiting." I said to myself.

"That was a great movie." Emelia said.
"Yeah." Katherine replied. The two girls were walking towards the Administrative Building in UC Berkeley.
"See ya, Katherine."
"See ya, Emelia. Hey, that rhymes!"
"Yes it does." Emelia said, waving goodbye. Katherine walked up the stairs briskly, hoping to avoid me at all costs.
"You're still here?!" she cried.
"Of course I'm still here." I replied. I was eating a bowl of ramen.
"Why?!" she exclaimed.
" 'Cause I didn't tell you my important news."
"Gosh, James. Must you be so extreme? Must you be so weird?"
"You described it as eccentric, if I may recall." she thought for a moment.
"Yes, but that was before..."
"Before what? Before you truly knew how I felt for you? Before you truly knew who I was, how I was, and what I was? Before you knew I loved you?!" I exclaimed in disbelief.
"You...love me?"
"Yes, of course I love you! I'll scream it at the top of my lungs! I'll scream it from the rooftops! I'll scream that I love you Katherine because I love you Katherine!"
"We'll talk about this later. What's your oh-so important news you just have to tell me?" she asked.
"My Aunt Hannah has been accepted to a prestigous Nursing Academy..."
"That's wonderful!"
"In New York." I finished. She looked at me, half quizzically, half almost about to sob. I decided to leave for now.
"I'm gonna go. I'll see you tomorrow. Clock tower at lunch?"
"Sure, James. Clock tower at lunch."
"Great. Oh, and one more thing." I handed her the quarter I found earlier.
"Why are you giving me a quarter?"
"Katherine, don't think of it as me giving you a quarter. Think of it as you getting a quarter of me." I left as quickly as she came. What I didn't know was that she flipped the quarter around to reveal it was a quarter with New York as the relief on its back.
