Karl Lanchester's P.O.V.
*Last Wednesday midnight*
The workout was so relaxing. I just finished taking a shower and it felt so refreshing. I turned to the radio and went to my walk-in closet. "Hmm, what should I wear for tonight?" I mumbled.
I chose a grey short-sleeved shirt and black long pants. The shirt made my arm muscles look so obvious. I stood in front of the floor mirror and looked at my whole body. Suddenly Anaconda, a song by Nicki Minaj tuned on the radio. "That song! My favourite part!" I shouted.
My anaconda don't, my anaconda don't
My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns, hun
Oh my gosh, look at her butt
Oh my gosh, look at her butt
Oh my gosh, look at her butt
I sang along and I shook my butt.
What?! Everyone did embarrassing things in their life, at least once. I didn't care what people would think because this part of the song made me smile. Suddenly my cell phone rang.
"Where did I put it? Aha! It's on the nightstand." I quickly grabbed my phone and Amanda Standefort's name appeared on the phone.
I furrowed my eyebrows while looking at the caller ID. "But we talked on the phone last week." I said under my breath.
"Hello?" I answered the phone on the third ring. I waited for a few seconds, but no one answered.
"Hello? Amanda, is that you?" I asked hesitantly.
"Hell-hello I-I ha-ve no pl-place to go." She answered, but it sounds like she was crying at that time.
"Amanda? Amanda Standeford? Are you alright? What happened? Where are you?" I asked so many questions at the same time.
I started to worry about her. I was thinking about so many consequences and bad situations that might have happened to her.
"If you have nowhere to go, my house is always open for you to come, whenever you want." I said calmly but only God knows how panicked I was at that moment. The only answer that I heard was "okay."
Amanda Standeford and I were childhood best friends. I lived a few blocks from her house. It's quite far if you walked to my house. We lived in LA, California. We both were born to a rich family. People said I was a friendly person and she was a smart little girl. We were always together whenever we went around the neighbourhood. After a few years, my family had to move out because my dad opened a new hotel in Dubai, UAE. My parents owned a family business. Early this year, they decided to moved back to LA. They said LA was where we came from and we should live our life here. We moved back to our house and I started to look for her. Amanda and I were no longer close like we used to and I missed our friendship so much. Last week was the first time I called her after so many years.
* * *
This would be the first time we met after so many years and I felt so nervous about it. I stood in front of the main door while waiting for her. When she arrived, she quickly went out of her white Audi TT car and ran towards me. I opened my arm widely and wrapped her around my huge body. She was half of my height. She had a brunette hair and it was curled at the end of it. She had a hazelnut eyes, a perfectly shaped eyebrows, rosy cheeks, a bow-shaped lips, dimples and a heart-shaped face. She had grown up so fast and became so beautiful.
"Karl"
"Karl"
"Karl" My name was the only word that came out of her mouth. She looked so devastated with tears pouring down her cheeks.
"Shush, don't say anything. Just cry as much as you want." I hugged her tighter. That was the only sentence that I could figure out at that moment. I was speechless because everything happened so suddenly.
I never thought that I would be in this situation right now. I hugged her into my arms and I could feel her tears dropped on my shirt. I never expected that we meet would turn out to be like this. She was so close to me and crying beside me. I was the chosen one among the people she had ever known.
"Let's go inside. It's really cold here." I invited her into my house and put my arm on her shoulder. I thought she might need someone to calm her down and it was really cold at that time. When we were young, She had come here once without her dad's permission. I was afraid her father wouldn't allow it because my house was quite far from her house.
"You must be tired, come with me and go upstairs. You will sleep in my room tonight." Her face was pale and she looked exhausted. There must be a reason why she didn't go back to her house. Never mind, I will keep those questions and the curiosity of mine for the time being.
I admitted that it was a long night for both of us. She told me the reason why she didn't come back home. At that time, I just realized that I had lost so many precious years that we both should spend together. There were so many things that I have missed. I could see that her hazelnut brown eyes were kept so many secret and pains. I never felt this kind of feelings before, but I started to feel something for her. What was that feeling? That's the question that kept running through my mind.
