'Well, here I am, at 10 pm, on my own, studying in the library, with a pass signed by Professor McGonagall to be out of my dorm of course. I have a Transfiguration test coming up and considering it's not my best subject, going over my notes seems to be a rather good id-'
*Ribbit*
*Croak*
The sudden noise made y/n's head snap up, pulling her from her thoughts. Looking around she couldn't see anyone else in the dark corner of the library.
*Ribbit*
There it was an again, y/n placed her quill on the desk, twisted the lid back onto the ink jar next to her textbook and stood from her seat.
"What is the name of Merlin?" Y/n whispered. She was about to take a step forward when another noise rang through the semi-empty room.
*Croak*
Drawing her attention to the direction of the strange sound, y/n was met with the sight of a slimy, green toad sitting at her feet.
Letting out a breath she didn't know she held, y/n sat back in her seat and leaned down to pick up the amphibian.
"Well hello." She greeted the toad with a raised eyebrow before she placed it on the desk and began to pack her things away.
"I suppose there's someone missing a pet toad, isn't there?" Y/n questioned, knowing full well there would be no reply.
"Not to worry little...lady?" Y/n said unsure of the exact differences between boy and girl toads. The toad looked her and made a low rumbling sound as if to disagree with the word 'lady'.
"Oh, my apologies. Not to worry little fella, " The young witch once again putting the green animal in the palm of her hand as she exits the library and began her walk to the y/h common room.
"I'll look after for the night and do my best to find your owner in the morning."

*Time Skip*

Y/n walked into the Great Hall the next morning thinking about how many of her fellow students could possibly be missing a pet toad. As she was about to take her seat for breakfast she couldn't help but overheard conversation coming from the middle of the Gryffindor table.
"Are you sure Neville? You've looked everywhere?" Hermione Granger asked sounding worried.
"Y-Yes. I-I looked all over my d-dorm. I l-looked in the common room. I even a-asked Ginny to see if he'd gone into the girl's dorms." Neville Longbottom replied seeming rather upset.
"I couldn't find him," Ginny stated.
"Well, not to worry Nev. How far could the toad have gotten?" Hermione comforted.

A few minutes later Neville got up a began to leave the Great Hall. Y/n got up from the y/h table and court up to him in one of the corridors.
"Hey, Neville!" Y/n called.
The boy turned around shyly and waited till the girl was stood in front of him.
"Y-Yes?" Neville asked.
"Um...I couldn't help but overhear that you've lost your pet."
"Oh, w-well yeah. Trevor got out while I was sleeping and I don't know where he's gotten to." Neville admitted with a sad smile.
"Right, well you see I was studying in the library last night and..." Y/n pulled the toad from her pocket. "...this little fella was hopping about the place."
"TREVOR! There you are!" The boy exclaimed as he took the reptile. "Thank you so much."
"No problem."

*TIME SKIP*

Over the next few days, Trevor kept finding his way to Y/n and y/n would happily return him to Neville.
The two had begun to take a liking to each other over time and Neville was determined to do something about it next time he saw y/n.
"Hey Nev, I found him on my way to Charms." Y/n said as she handed Trevor over.
"T-Thank you." He stuttered.
"Your welcome." Y/n replied as she went to walk away.
"Wait!" Neville blurted out.
"Is everything okay?" Y/n questioned.
"Yeah- No- I mean Y- *sigh*" Neville paused to collect his thoughts. "Would you maybe want to go to Hogsmead this weekend?"
"Well yeah. I guess I'll just meet you and the others at the entrance ha-"
"Oh no-no-no. What I meant was... Would you want to go with me?" Neville put his hands in his pockets and looked at the floor as his face turned pink. "Just me. Like, ah. Like a d-date?"
"A date?" Y/n double-checked what she heard was correct.
"Yes. I-I understand if you do-"
"of course Neville. I'd love to
Neville's head snapped up to search y/n's for any sigh of a joke, but there was none.
"oh okay, great. I'll see you then."
The two said their goodbyes which included a hug and went their separate ways.

Bonus

Neville made his way to the Gryffindor common room as fast as he could, once the Fat Lady let him in before he even made it through the passageway fully he yelled. "Ginny! We have a code pink!"
"A code pink?!" Ginny replied with shock.
"Yes, a code pink!"
"Wait what's a code pink?" Ron questioned.
"Neville's got a date," Ginny said simply.
"WHAT?!" Ron, Harry, Hermione, Seamus, Dean and the Twins all said dumbfounded.
