I pulled my robe on and fastened it tightly as the boys gathered their things together to leave the compartment.

As we climbed down the stairs and stepped onto the dirt I couldn't help but feel extremely excited.

"Firs' years this way!" A loud, gruff voice called out.

"Should I go with him? I still have to be sorted," I asked the twins. They looked at each other.

"I don't know Fred, should she?" George jokingly asked Fred.

"I think she should George," Fred answered his joke.

I couldn't help but feel just a little sad that I'd have to leave my only friends for a while.

"Will you guys save me a seat?" I asked with a pleading look in my eyes.

"Of course, don't worry about it Mel. We wouldn't let you sit with strangers." Fred promised. I let out a sigh of relief but felt my cheeks turn pink once again.

The nickname he gave me made me feel giddy. I smiled gratefully.

"Now go on, and just hope you get sorted into Gryffindor. The other house only wish they were as cool as us," George gloated cockily but it was obvious he was just playing.

"Fingers crossed," I called out as I walked away from them, twisting two of my fingers together and holding them up for the twins to see.

They waved and wished me luck and I turned around and made my way to the giant man who had called for the first years.

He led us to a row of boats at the base of a large black lake. I was put into a group of two other kids. They seemed so young compared to me, I almost felt like I was their babysitter on this boat ride.

The sky above us was riddled with what seemed like hundreds of black ghostlike creatures. I remembered a book I once read calling them dementors.

That must've been what stopped the train. It seemed like everybody and their mother were out searching for the escaped criminal, Sirius Black.

The boy in front of me let his fingers drag in the water causing ripples to form in his tracks. The kids around me in all the boats seemed so mystified by the sight around them.

We reached the other end of the lake and exited the boats. The boats began to make their own way back to the other side of the lake. I watched them in wonder.

I towered over everyone else besides the giant man as we walked up to the castle together.

As we walked through the large doors I was flooded with warmth and light. The castle was absolutely magical and wonderful in every way.

The candlelit walls were covered by paintings of every size, and each of the paintings waved at us as we passed by. I waved back at a painting of a bride and she smiled at me.
