My Own Worst Enemy

Seems to have happened

In flash

A dash

As I once flew

But then crashed

Into a fiery pile

And after a while

Finding myself

Frowning more

Than having a smile

As life tends to compile

That which goes

Unhealed after a while

And a powder keg if you will

Finding that life and time

Around me still moved

While I was standing still

As the evidence revealed

Hurting deeply

And lips always sealed

Then went to constantly unsealed

And what for

As more and more

Time after time

As I would find

That I

Kept hitting

The ceiling and floor

Wrecked at the core

As life had become

Such a bore

Attack after attack

And unsure exactly

On how to hit back

Becoming docile

After a while

With eyes glassed over

Hiding within a shell

Undercover

And would hover

As opposed to levitate

And arriving late

To my own party and race

As fate would seem

Living dirty instead of clean

And whatever fell and ran amuck

In between

All while looking

In the mirror

At a very different reflection

And going in the wrong direction

My own rival

My very own nemesis

As this persists

Couldn't seem to resist

Open hands

With no closed fists

And going up and down a list

That had no real movement

Anywhere

The misguided and the unfair

As I would

Take a pause

Stop and stare

But still not getting

Anywhere

Nowhere

No care

Self respect lost

Along with partial dignity

For what I had become

Was my own worst enemy
