Chapter Forty

"I hope you don’t forget me. I’ll be teaching you for the next six months.” I gasped with fright.

My eyes snapped open and looked down to see a pair of cold metallic grey eyes staring back at me. My breath got trapped in my throat and my heart skipped a beat. A loud girly scream echoed from where Ellie was standing, she stood with the same dazzled expression I had on my face she stood gripping her chest with wide eyes.

“I didn’t scare you did I?” he choked out “I saw him,” he said weakly.

“Saw who Jared?” I whispered still crying.

“The Viking king that ruled when I was brought over to East Anglia, I haven’t seen him for over one thousand years and hadn’t aged a day. He told me that the curse died and it’s been removed from my body,” his eyes glistened with happiness.

“And what does that mean?” I asked gently.

“I’ve gone back to the way I was before the curse. I’m twenty-one years old and on the first of January I’m going to be Twenty-two,” he smiled “Amy I’m going to age. I’ll grow old with you. I’m a normal human being,” he laughed with happiness. I couldn’t believe what I’m hearing. I was convinced he was going to be the way he was forever and that I would die of old age and he’d still be frozen in time. “Although…”

“What?” I encouraged still holding him on my lap.

“I can still change into a wolf,” he said bluntly. I laughed at the news tears still fresh in my eyes.

“Well I’m sure we can cope with that,” my hands were still shaking due to the adrenaline pumping through my body.

“Jared…I love you,” I admitted shamelessly “tell me you’ll never leave me.” I begged.

“You are never leaving my sight,” he assured. I felt like this was a dream. All my fears about growing old and leaving him behind were now gone. My life is perfect.

“Are you okay? You’re not in pain or anything are you?” I looked at him with concern.

“No I’m just dandy. I just like lying in your arms,” he joked.

“I’m quitting my job at the end of summer term when your year leaves,” he said out of the blue as we walked hand in hand back out the forest.

“What? Why?” I frowned.

“Well as I already have a degree in medicine I thought I might get a job as a doctor in the hospital near your university.” And I thought my day couldn’t get any better.

“Are you okay Ellie?” I questioned looking at her walking beside me with her head hung low.

“You two will be swanning off to London together and I’ll be left here. All by myself, don’t want to be, all by myself,” she sang depressingly. Me and Jared couldn’t help laugh.

“Don’t worry Ellie I have plenty of friends I can introduce you too,” Jared offered. Ellie’s head shot up her mood suddenly changed.
“Really?” she asked eagerly.

“Yes, I’m sure we’ll find you someone.” Jared gave her a wink.

It was a busy weekend night shift at Kings College Hospital in London, England. Patients were falling in off the street after a heavy night on the town, drinking, fighting and generally falling over. Two paramedics weaved a trolley with a bloodied patient through the packed A&E department. The room buzzed with noise.

“This is Tom Spencer nineteen years old, he fell down some concrete steps in town after leaving a night club. He has a deep laceration to the forehead and a suspected broken wrist; he’s had ten milligrams of Morphine.” The paramedic informed the smart blonde female doctor. She had her hair tied in an elegant bun on the back of her head, she wore light blue scrubs with a red stethoscope neatly placed around her neck.

“Thank you Will,” the doctor gave the paramedic a thoughtful smile. “Hello Tom I’m Amy Brown and I’m the doctor that will be taking care of you today. We’ll take you through to a cubicle where I can have a closer look at your head.” She assured the patient. “Urm Nurse Carter please you could order an x-ray and a CT scan for Tom Spencer please,” she quickly asked as they passed a nurse in the corridor.

“Aren’t you the brains and the beauty,” the young man covered in blood on the trolley slurred at the doctor. “When I get out of here do you fancy going for a drink sometime,” before the young newly qualified doctor could respond a tall Dark handsome man stepped out of a cubicle wearing a smart shirt and tie.

“I’m afraid that won’t be possible Doctor Brown is already spoken for,” the consultant stated protectively.

“Thank you Doctor Bates I was then about to decline the offer anyway,” Doctor Brown assured her fiancé smirking at him. The two doctors let the patient be wheeled away to a cubicle leaving them standing next to each other.

“I think somebody is getting jealous,” the elegant Doctor teased.

“I don’t think so,” he replied then looked at his wrist watch “Our shift ends in fifteen minutes I’ll meet you in the canteen. By the way you look very sexy in those scrubs I can’t wait to get you home and congratulate you on your first weekend night shift,” he whispered suggestively.

“And until then I have lives to save,” she smirked walking off with her head held high. The handsome young man discretely slapped her bottom as she walked off. “Oi!” she warned looking back over her shoulder. Doctor Amy Brown she said proudly sang in her head. Her her whole life with Doctor Jared Bates to look forward to.
