Cassandra's POV

i got up extra early to get ready. if avani was coming over before work and we wanted to spend time together, i couldn't get up 20 minutes before i had to leave.

i text avani, who is already awake and ready. she was just waiting for me to send her my address.

i tell her to start driving.

i walk around and start to straighten up my room. this is avani's first time coming to my house.

i open the door to my room and walk down the hall. my mom is getting ready in her room.

"good morning," i say to her. she turns and smiles.

"hello, mi amor."

"i just wanted to let you know avani is coming over for a few minutes. i have to give her something," i say. she nods.

"just don't take too long. i'll leave without you," she warns. "and...just talking. nothing more."

i laugh. "ok."

i go back to my room and wait.

obviously avani shouldn't text and drive, so i haven't heard from her and i don't want to text her.

i'm sitting on the edge of the bed and my leg is bouncing, when something hits my window. i jump and scream.

i turn around.

a rock hits my window.

i go and open my window, but throw myself on the floor.

"don't hit me in the head!" i yell. i remember doing that to avani.

i hear her laugh. "i won't!"

i slowly stand up. i watch avani pull her arm back again. i dodge the pebble that gets thrown and it lands on my bed.

"hey!" i yell in surprise.

"sorry! i had to!" she says and laughs again.

i shake my head in disbelief. "mhm. yeah. ok."

"i'm gonna go to the front door," she says.

"i'm not sure i wanna let you in," i say.

she laughs but starts walking to my door.

i go downstairs and see my mom waiting in the living room. she has a smile on her face.

i open the door and avani launches herself into my arms.

"it's been less then a day," i say.

"i know. i just missed you," she replies.

she steps in and then sees my mom. she immediately gets embarrassed.

"hi," she says with a short wave.

my mom smiles at her and gets up.

"hi avani," and she gestures for a hug.

avani relaxes.

"alright. let's go upstairs," i say.

avani follows me to my room.

"so how did you sleep?" avani starts.

"very well after you stopped bothering me," i answer.

"says the girl who was talking about 'biting' me last night," she says.

"in my defense, i told you everything changes at night. i just say whatever and then deal with it in the morning," i say.

avani walks around my room, taking everything in. besides painting on jackets, i also paint on canvases so i have a few of those on my walls. since we also make jewelry, i have many of my own creations on my dresser.

"wow. you're very talented," she says.

i blush. "thank you."

she walks over to my easel, where i'm still currently working on a painting. she studies it for a while.

"i mean it. you're so talented."

i smile. and then i remember.

"oh wait! this is for you," i say. i pull out a purple box.

she gives me a look. she wasn't expecting this.

she takes off the cover and pulls out the tissue paper. she then pulls out the jacket i made yesterday.

"woah," she says. she takes a second to just look it over. "this is beautiful. thank you so much."

she leans over and hugs me.

"a beautiful jacket for a beautiful girl," i say.

she puts her hands under her chin and says, "that's me!"

i hear my mom call me from downstairs.

"well i guess i have to go then," i say.

"yeah. thank you again for this jacket. i'm gonna wear it every day," she says.

i laugh. "good luck matching all your clothes to it."

"i'll make it work."

we sit for a few seconds. neither of us know what to do or say.

"i'll text you later," avani says. i nod my head.

we both stand up to leave.

we hug again.

and then we walk down the stairs.

she waves goodbye and goes to her car.

i turn to my mom.

"you gave her that jacket," she says.

"i made it for her," i reply.

"i can tell. some of the best work you've done for someone you're passionate about. you know what that's called?"

i do.
